Hi all!, hope you are all having a good Christmas?
Not so good for me unfortunately, as I was riding my new R1150 gs Adv when I went over a drain cover at around 20 mph and the rear shock exploded! Apart of the spring as cracked off leaving it shortened!, it's under warranty from motorworks so hopefully they will fix it!
Has this happened to anyone before? It was a tiny drain cover and can't believe it would of done this!

Bugger, pm if you need to borrow one. Fair number of miles on it, but may do for a bit til your sorted.

Was it the BM one? Probably was as it was the M/works bike...

Anglian,

Have brought the shock into work with me today if you do want to borrow it, just let me know. Here in Whitechapel today and tomorrow until about 4:30.

Looking at some of the whingeing and bitching that occurs on UKGSER ,posts and gestures like this put it all into perspective.
Kudos to Stujw70 for offering help to a noob the site.:clap:beerjug:

Thanks so much for the offer stu, i think i will wait and see if motorworks will send me a replacement spring as don’t need to go anywhere!
It was just the spring that broke, i will post a pic on here but about a 3 inch segment as just broke off!!! The bike has only done 19000 miles so couldn’t have had that much of a hard life??
I see that you have a HEMS picture though stu, Are you apart of the LAS as well?

Thanks again!, just shows you that there are some gents left in this world
!

Rare for a bike spring to break but they do often on our 4w vehics up here. Usually corrosion and cold but for bikes it may just be a bit of bad luck...

Sorry to hijack, but since you are in that region :D when we built Sullom Voe and Moss Morran, all the high temperature piping is hung on springs, which we dipped in liquid neoprene for corrosion protection, 6 months later we started getting kark as it was coming off?? On a site inspection we found the problem the cormorants were stripping it off to line there nests!!!

Off for a ride now 6:15 AM its bright and sunny and about 16C :augie
