Hey everyone,

Looking for advice on the following issue. 2 days ago my gs died while out on the motorway after about 15 minutes driving. Yesterday I had the battery replaced as it seemed to be the problem(and needed replacing). I drove for an hour today and all good. After a bit of a break I made it 2km down the road and had the same issue as in it died and wouldn't restart.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers,
Steven.

A bit more info may help bud. Does it spin over and not restart or has the battery failed meaning it doesn't turnover at all or struggles to turn over? If the battery has failed then maybe check the alternator and the belt. If it is the battery and they're okay perhaps a current drain somewhere. Not helpful maybe but that could be much more problematic to trace. Check the loom for chafing cracking/splits, most likely at points where it's liable to be rubbed against other bits of the bike or at connectors.

If it spins over well but won't start then maybe you need to confirm if you have fuel at the injectors and spark at the plugs. Twin-spark? Could be upper coil sticks, single to twin could be hall sensor?

How did it die? Immediate cutting out = ignition or electrical. Misfiring and gradual stop = fuel. But the fuel pump could be struggling or you may have a split hose in the tank. If it runs ok at lower speeds but dies on the motorway it might point towards a fuel supply problem.

99% of the hall sensors I have diagnosed and replaced have been after a battery replacement (Because they needed it)

Usually because people grind away at the starters winding the battery down to zilch in the vain hope it will cough into life!

All it does is cause huge current voltage spikes that the vane sensor (Hall sensor) has no protection against!

Do the Diagnostics But you should be looking at Hall sensor replacement as a matter of course I mean its at the youngest end of the scale 2005 ? qpp 16 years old

Thank you so much for the replys. I won't quote anyone but I will send on your knowledge to my mechanic. Again thanks to everyone who replid, your info has been a great help.

Steve.
