R1150gs gearbox special ratios

Hi fellas ,I obviously can't post in for sale and wanted ,cos I'm not prepared to to talk ££££ .
I have been going through all the 6 speed stuff that I have bought and I have at least two sets of low " enduro" gears.
I think I also have a number of high top( overdrive gears)
So low 1st high 6th.
I have loads of casings and plenty of clusters.
So I can build a very small number of specials,
Does this appeal to anyone?
 
It's the gearbox that should have been a standard fit, if you ask me. The trouble is as much as I would love to have one, I can't really justify the cost.

I have managed to get around the higher gearing of the R1150GS by fitting the lower geared final drive from the R1100GS. It doesn't completely solve the problem, as you know, as Pulling away from stationary would still be easier with a lower gear that your 'Special Ratio Gearbox' offers. However, I find my 6th gear more usable with my set up, and with your Gearbox fitted, I would be back to standard with an unusable 6th gear on all but motorways.

Having said that, if my gearbox ever needed rebuilding, which it doesn't, then I would if possible choose your 'Gearbox' ratios.

I could be interested as I've got to get the g'box off at some point to get it re-powder coated. What would the difference be in yours from an '05 GSA box? (I'm on the Circle line and can't look it up just now !)

When you get home, have a look to see what gearbox you have fitted. On the right hand side of the casing, there will be a serial number followed by a 3 letter code (such as JAL or JAS or something similar). That code will tell you what gearbox you have fitted. It is likely to be an EVO box which has narrower gears than the earlier versions, and other internal modification to make the box lighter overall. The code will also tell you whether the box is Standard Gearing (higher 1st and 6th) or Enduro (lower 1st and 6th).

Once you have the code, 'mikeyboy' will be able to advise you further.

JAL = Silver coloured EVO gearbox with Enduro gear ratios.

your gearbox will have the low 1st gear and a low 6th gear.

Your box should be easier to modify, as all that is required is to replace the 6th gear cogs on the intermediate shaft and the output shaft.
 
I think you'll find it's not so straightforward as that :D

I know you need a hydraulic press to get the gear cogs off and on the intermediate shaft. I also know that the First gear is machined as part of the intermediate shaft.

I was just simplifying the operation for the less knowledgeable.

these letter codes at the end of the gear box serial number,
does somebody have a list to decode them?

Mikey boy, do you have an evo RT 6th gear set please?
After much digging it appears i have an EVO adventure low first gear set,(narrow gears and teflon bushed forks) and a GAE spare gearbox which is pre EVO so the gear widths are different.The output shaft on the GAE box has snapped off but i do have the output shaft from the GAE box.I had planned to use the output shaft from the GAE to fix this enduro tranny, but the gears are different widths, so hence the question about an RT EVO top gear.

It's exactly that straightforward. You need to split the intermediate shaft to shuffle the cogs, but otherwise it's then just a straight rebuild...
So does anyone know if there is a possibility of using evo and non evo gears in a gearbox build.?
