Hi All!

On Saturday I bought an 2002 R1150GS in white/blue :beerjug:

It's got 23k km. Test ride was great, a bit hard to get into 1st, but it was rather cold out.

It's got a dealer warrantee for 3 months, I'm going to pick it up in March.

Is there anything I need to look out for mechanically speaking ?

Thanks,
Awfers

Welcome to the site. Blue /white = my favourite colour.

If you are collecting it in March, you have plenty of time to read up on all things 1150 here.
Enjoy:friday

welcome

you have loads of time to buy tons of bling on here and also plan where you are going to tour next year because once you get riding it you will just smile and not want to stop have a great christmas chinker roux:beerjug:

Thanks guys,

will poke around here of course, the post about the 1150 and the FD is what prompted my question :)

Can't wait to tour on it this summer!! It's my 3rd bike, also have a K75C and an R1100R.

Cheers,

Awfers

If you can't get it in 1'st gear, try releasing the clutch lever and then pull it again and give it one more try ;)

They sometimes do that...

Hi.
I have a 9 year old with 23k on the clock... always strugles to get in first gear... just slowly let clutch out and it will drop ito first... also sometimes by rolling backwards slightly in neutral will allow it to slot in first time... enjoy!
good times!

With only 23,000 kms it's not properly run in yet. Give it another 12,000kms and the engine will become smoother and faster and the gearbox will get slicker.

Keep an eye on the oil level as they use oil all the time. Consumption does tail off a bit when they are run in. See above.

Will try that, thanks!

You could also replace the clutch fluid, which is what I did this week when first gear started becoming a problem recently. It was a bit cloudy and had a bit of air to be released.
Also, I was told that old clutch fluid ruins the seals in the slave cylinder (mine failed in January) and change it at least twice a year: I do over 15K miles a year so it's no bother to me.

Twice a year. Never heard that one. Thought it was every two years. Not sure how my old car survives with umpteen years between changes.
