I have a 2000 model 1150GS with the six-bolt silencer mounting plate, and no clamp to the cat outlet pipe.
The bolts are in poor condition, and I need to be drilled out and re-tapped to change to stainless. (I've already done one of the bolts, as it was sheared off when I got the bike)
Alternatively I might fit another silencer, in better condition.
I’ve noticed that some s/h silencers available for sale have a different mounting, with a rubber bush, and clamp connection to the cat.
Are the two types interchangeable? (The mounting plate on mine also contains captive nuts for the pillion footrest mount.)

Or......Does anyone have an early model inner silencer, with decent bolt threads, they don’t need any more?

Easiest solution, junk the can altogether and fit a Stubby to the cat outlet.

Less weight and no problems with the MOT either.

The two types are interchangeable, I was given a silencer from an unused 2003 twin spark silencer and fittted it to my old 1999 single spark, as long as you have the relevant bracket still on the can it will fit

Sure I have the original somewhere I will see if the clamps and mounting plate is okay

I'd thought about trying a stubby pipe, and eventually getting a full size pannier in the future, but at the moment I'll probably just go for fixing the OEM type.

Neil, if you find yours, PM me with the info.

Will look at the weekend

Just found the pipe it was in the garage , it is the original the one with the bracket with 6 bolt fittings that bolt through the slip on sleeve and into the silencer. Yours should have an exhaust clamp on the joint with the cat (might have one attached to the cat )
The pipe is in decent condition apart from one very small dink in the outer sleeve , however , it was always an absolute pig to refit with that bracket , the later one I fitted (the 4 bolt one with the rubber bush mounting )was much simpler to fit and I think that is why BMW changed the design.
If you want the pipe you can have it as it has been sitting around in the garage since about 2005 .
Personally if I had another 1150 I would modify the early bracket to incorporate a rubber mount the same as a the later one or Remus

Neil, PM sent.
My current silencer doesn't have a clamp onto the cat, and there is no slot cut in the pipe to make a clamp work.
Maybe the earliest versions relied on the solid mount, onto the pillion bracket, to hold everything in place?
