Does anyone know what size spanner I need to remove the nuts holding the indicator stems in place?

Biggest spanner I have is 17 mm and looks a bit too small, before I buy one I wanna check if I need a 18mm, 19mm or 20 mm spanner.

cheers

19mm, squirt some WD on the threads if it's not been off in a while else it'll try and spin in the clamp inside the indicator body.

Many thanks, managed to get adjustable spanner in far enough to loosen them, but can't get them tight enough to hold the stem in place.

Off to the hardware store!

Great timing on this thread. I needed the same advice today as well.

You'll find it's a right twat trying to move the nut far with an open ended spanner, disconnect the wiring and you can use the ring end if it's giving grief, in fact you may need to take the lens off and try to grip the inner stem.....and don't break the plastic tag off the lens either:blast:D

Sorted, and yes it was a twat to tighten but managed it all the same

I think I'll just put some superglue on the thread to stop it coming off, it's certainly nigh impossible to do it with a spanner.

Unplug the wiring from inside the lens unit, slide it out through the stem and nut, replace nut with a big wingnut and a compression washer:thumb2

Great idea, I did that, then when you want to remove it again the threaded tube will spin in the rubber and you finish up cutting it off and getting new ones..... I know:blast, rather use two nuts and lock the one against the other..... much better idea:D

I have two 19 mms panniers, but it seems there is not enough room to work with around the nut.

If that's the case and you really want to use a ring spanner, just grind some off the outside of a cheap 19mm one.
