R1150GS Starter Motor: Advice Needed ~

Behind the oil catch plate are those small planetary gears.
What grease would you use (if any) and maybe half a teaspoon!

I used lithium grease steve, but i suspect any general purpose heavy grease would be fine. i gave them a generous coating.

Thanks gog, that I can do through the plate hole as I do not want to dislodge it.

Another question, the sprung plunger coming out of the solenoid doesn’t stick so, I do not want to open it.
Do they ever fail and maybe worth the effort to open?

I never have. Ive never come across a failure there, on any of my bikes or cars. That doesnt mean it doesnt happen though.

Good, I will leave it. Just one magnet to glue (Araldite) back which I think broke off when pulling out the commutator.

Damn, can’t find it......
Of the 4 torx bolts holding on the starter cast aluminium gear drive cover, there is one small bolt that attaches to the solenoid. That has gone walkabout.

Can someone tell me the size?
I don’t seem to have a spare size that fits.

Update: the refurb’ed Valeo from Motorworks is totally fecked...
They’re sending another one, and it should be with me tomorrow.
Symptoms: an awful noise on starting, and the drag in the starter drains the battery in short order!
10/10 for customer service
01/10 for whoever refurb’ed it!
