Hi

I'm currently in the middle of planning my trip to the americas later this year using my BMW R1150GS. Its about 5 years old and has nearly 60k miles on the clock. Its been round the world 2-up by the previous owner for 2 years.

Should I be looking at replacing (or just overhauling) the original shocks? I'm going solo and am (just under!) 13stone. There seems to be a bit of sag without much load and I have the rear damper setting fairly high.

Any help muchos appreciated

Cheers

Mike

If they are original untouched shocks, they must be totally shagged by now. Get yerself set up with Ohlins! You will not believe the differance they make

Cheers dave

Ohlins a tad pricy and apparently they need fairly regular service intervals?

Theres a guy in Glasgow that can rebuild the original shocks- is this worth looking into?

Also White Power shocks- seem to get reasonably favorable reviews here.

Given the age & milage of the bike, I guess I should be looking at both front and rear replacements then.

Thanks

Bought mine second hand, don't know how many miles they'd done , and i've put 30K miles on them without any servicing, still all OK.
