R1150GS ... they still have "it", don't they?

I have been in the motorcycle trade since 1977 and I am still in the Trade today. I have owned a total of 65 motorcycles and have ridden over 400 different machines, I bought an 1150 GSA 4 years ago and declare it to be the most comfortable, capable and the best handling machine I have owned.

That Sir is a very strong recommendation :beerjug:

Checked the vin on my old one with local dealer many moons ago and it ended 00113 and they confirmed from bmw that it was one of the initial 1999 production run and 113th off the line

OOPS bit of duff info, just double checked and my old bike actually had a VIN nos ending in 114 (not 113) , stuck both it and the new bikes VIN through the BMW VIN decoder and apparently they both came off the production line on the same day 31/05/1999 ....... next best thing to getting my old bike back

Only ever had the one GS (well, technically I did buy another one from a chap who was going back to Brazil and sold it on to Les from Travel-Dri Plus)

Still my daily ride 18 years later.

It's very much 'Trigger's broom' and it doesn't get polished or look pretty but I like it just the way it is.

Those were the prototype Series 2 Metal Mule panniers. First time they'd been field tested on a proper trip. They were excellent and I was sad to give them back. Still have my Series 1 panniers which have withstood three big crashes and have never let a drop of water in.

Perhaps we should pick a Sunday in September - central England somewhere - meet at 12 and see how many 1150’ we can get in one place….

Have a coffee and a bun…. Just for shits and giggles….

I’d be up for that :thumby:

Just returned to 1150 ownership.
I’ve done a 2010/2013/2016/2018 ownership, still have the 2018. All of them GSA’s
But on seeing old pics of the monkey pi55 yellow GS1150 I tried to find it, only to discover it had been nicked, and crashed. So found a GSA for sale in Leicester, a px, and have bought it.
They are just so pretty.
And so lovely to ride, a proper tank

What can I say

Bought my “Beast” back in 98, just after my daughter was born, my 3rd baby!!, the GS that is

Got tempted by a lovely low mileage, still had its nipples on the outer edges of the tyres, 1150GS, but couldn’t live with it and brought my 1100 back,

LIVED WITH ME TILL 2021 when the itch needed scratching, and a early retirement present got myself a 2018 R1200RT LC, and let my GS go to Brodie

Now love the RT super smooth, SWMBO loves it, but it doesn’t have the heart and soul of an 1100.

Williams gave me a 1250 Triple Black for the 150 miles and worn tyres later, I remembered what a GS was

So I looked at a 1250, fell off my chair at the cost to change looked at a s/h 1200, but thought why not a 1100, no real electronics, found a very tidy 1100 anniversary model, lovely colour, been looked after, all the right bits added and still enough for me to tinker over the next12 months, and I have kept the RT, happy wife, always a bonus.

The bike is fantastic, and my mojo is back for single riding

Roll on next spring, this forum still surprises me after 22 years

I bought a 1200LC this summer. As refined, quick and good as it is, I keep comparing it to the 1150GS I've had for a while.

Truth be told I much prefer the 1150, so yep, as per the original thread title...........They definitley do still have it!

Me too, the 1200 has no soul, the 1150 is alive

I've just come back to an 1150GS too. Never got on with the 1200 - bought 2 1200GSs and a 1200R (not at the same time, you understand - I just didn't learn) but they didn't do it for me - too bland. I love my old VFR and don't ever expect to sell it but it's never made me want to do a long trip on it. Now my new to me 1150GS is properly sorted it's like being home again after about 10 years away and puts a huge grin on my face when I ride it and I can't wait to put some proper miles under its fresh Tourances next year. Feels as if I've got my biking mojo back.
