Surfing around, I have found some places in USA that do Turbo conversions for the 1150.

Anyone seen these?

They claim to kick out 140BHP!

Quite like the idea myself!

I seem to recal reading that the R series gearboxes were only rated to 125HP. I looked on the Getrag site http://www.getrag.de/185/185 but the only info I could find was the max torque (110Nm) and speed (9400 rpm). Interesting to see that they also make the gearbox for the Harley V Rod.

I reckon it would be great fun... for a short while anyway.

Loads of interesting information on BMW turbo kits here
I’d be a bit concerned about the gearbox too – not to mention the cost! Nailing the sportsbike boys down a straight on an old 80 would be fun though wouldn’t it:D

I always had a hankering to try nitrous on my old R80GS. I found a website with all the info for a DIY kit which worked out at around £100 cost and even got my hands on some CO2 fire extinguishers. That's as far as it went though.

I dreamt of putting the kit into a pannier with a micro switch on the throttle to open the valve & inject the nitrous into the airbox through a suitable jet. A basic system is very simple to set up and can be low cost as well. Finally, it is really easy to put back to standard afterwards.

Check it all out here

I got a R1100GS Turbo!

130 hp and 170 Nm on the dyno!:weights

I wanted more power than a std mod, chip and pipe, way more.
After considering different options my choise was turbo charging.

The big problem was that no turbo kits were produced for BMW R1100GS. I only found one company that had schedule testing for R1150GS and they told me to come back later to their web sait. They still have no more information after one year!

So, my decision was to build it my self. All mods were made in three weeks and i went on a 1200 km trip one day after i finished it. Everything works great, but I get high oil temp if I realy start to push it.
The mods add + 60% Hp and +70% tourque. One more benefit is that the max power and max tourque are delivered 1000 revs earlier.

This modification eliminate the GS big bug underpower!:moped:

Tell me more.....

I'm very interested in this.

I'm looking to do the same.

Any Piccies?

What did you do to ge tthe extra fuel in it?

Tell me more...

Sorry, I can't post any pics (against forum rules)!

To give the bike more fule I use a EFI-box manufactured by MC-Express in Sweden. You can program the EFI from a laptop and it controles two extra fuleinjectors. The EFI is programeble in total 64 levels, 8 for boost and 8 for rev. When you adjust the parameters you need to run the bike on a dyon.

If you want dyno runs and pics you can check the link Advrider.com

Which Turbo did you use?
(One from a car?, which car? what were the real snags?)

I have no qualms about the pipework and oil feed to the turbo, or the installation of extra injectors etc, but the tuning of these injectors?

Also, where did you get your oil feed from?

What boost pressure does that run?

You can send pictures etc,. to [email protected].

This kind of power is really just what the GS needs - a bit more pep on the straights.

Which Turbo did you use? Schwitzer S1BG with modyfied turbo housing.

One from a car? No diesel tractor,

which car? Valmet I think

What were the real snags? Decrease comp. Today I use three headgaskets, but it's not a good solution.

MC-Express did the tuning for me and they use one extra lamdasond (O2 sensor) in the exhaust to do the tuning. It took about 2-3 hours on the dyno to complete the tuning. MC-Express are experts on turbo converting bikes and they realy got the know how.

Also, where did you get your oil feed from? Adapter on oilpressure switch.

What boost pressure does that run? 0,65-0,7 bar

OH yes.

Find the answers above.
