I have started on getting a laid up (since 2021) 2001 R1150GS back on the road.
I have drained the fuel, removed the Tank.
Replaced the battery.
Removed Spark Plugs, and cranked over engine - All free.
Fitted new spark plugs.
Refitted Fuel tank. Fresh 5lts of fuel.
She eventually started, but even with the cold stsrt lever returned to the botton, the bike is running at 3500 rpm, any ideas?

Running rough and uneven or steady at 3,500?

Make Sure ALL the cables are seated

There are Idle stop screws on the inside of the throttle bodies (NEVER adjust these!!)

Makes sure that the cable quadrant sits against them with throttle and fast idle controls in the OFF positions

That sounds like the main Throttle cable is out of place

Has the fast idle cable seized in its outer sleeve, and is holding the engine revs up ?

There’s lots of potential for issues with old cables hanging inside the outer somewhere. As part of the recommissioning, I’d be looking at replacing all of them - fast idle, from twistgrip to splitter box, and the 2 cables to the TBs.

As it’s a 2001 (single spark I presume) I’d also replace the plug leads and check the hall sensor wiring for deterioration. All these are things that would have the potential to deteriorate and stop you in your tracks, somewhere inconvenient.
