Hey all. I open my petrol cap today after some heavy rain and it had a lot of water that ran in to the tank as soon as I opened it.

I think I've read there's a water drain hose that might be blocked or something or does it need a new seal on the cap?

Completely clueless so go easy on me :)

There is a drain hole on the outer rim as you open the tank, needs a prop to clear it with a wire/metal coat hanger and may be a little blow with compressed air to clear it properly if you have access to a compressor

The offending unit is the fuel tank breather and can be fixed as described above.
The best option is to replace it. Motorworks have used units at £22.00 from what I see but you need to call them with exact details of your bike ... Very good at helping out by the way and a company you want to know about ... Using the iPad and don't know how to link :aidan
Piece of cake to swap out.
It seems the welds on some of the pipe work wasn't the best!

If you blow with compressed air, do it from the bottom tube (near paralever arm and wheel) upwards and GENTLY

Do not blow from the petrol cap end, downwards

I cleared mine with a couple squirts of wd 40 in tut hole... found the exit pipe down near/behind the foot brake... make sure you pick the right one.... football hand pump with needle valve ... insert.... a couple of swift pumps and ...pop little sausage of crap comes out of drainage hole near petrol filler .... squirt of wd down hole... when it drips all done.....

When you open the petrol cap there is a little recess to the left as your looking forward on the bike. It in thebgroove that runs around the hole... the bit the water sits in.If it is so full of crud use your funfer to feel for it..... use a really thin object like a safety clip or paper clip to clen the top.... so that you can see the drain hole.

down by your right foot behind the brake peddel youll see 2 rubber hoses hanging down.

1. Is the tank breather ...i think might be wrong
2 is the filler drain pipe..

. i cant remember how i found out which one it was i think i jist popped the pump in both an one cleared the hole. I then snipped the end to a slant so i knew for future... its dead easy....

same happened to me stopping for fuel after torrential rain in scotland. Cleaned it out with a 6th E guitar strng which is rolled up in the tool section of the bike for the next time. expected a breakdown having seen the water plop into the fuel tank but it never came - somehow cleared itself. tony

Mine was blocked and I cleared it using a short length of inner cable rotated slowly by a battery operated drill.
I now give the drain hole a squirt of WD 40 from time to time :beerjug:

Yep, as per above

If it's corroded, small strand of wire spun on a drill helps clear corrosion.

If it's just crud, I usually use a small syringe. First of try to draw any crud out with said syringe, then use it to push fresh water through a few times to clear it through properly. As Johnny says, blow it the bottom tube so as not to dislodge it further up. Once done, a squirt of WD40 etc every so often helps. Wouldn't worry about a bit of water into the tank, if it's loads though you can get some stuff from Halfords which helps with water in fuel.
