R1150GSA Headlights and Indicators suddenly not workinig

Two things I have recently done that may have caused this:

I sprayed WD40 in the horn switch as the horn was no longer working. The horn did not work and I thought no more on this. Perhaps this was enough to cause the issue?

I removed the fuel tank to take off a set of Denali driving lights from my adventure, put the tank back on and connected up the block connector on the RHD side of the tank but the indicators and headlights are no longer working. The rear tail and brake lights work, the font side light is on. I have removed the tank in the past and had no issues then. Any ideas?

Are you sure when you removed the Denali driving lights you haven’t broken into your light circuit.?

My initial thoughts would be the load relief relay as this controls horn, high and low beam as well as indicators.

That’s the little yellow one, which can be swopped temporarily with any of the little black ones.

I removed the cable that was connected to the feed of the headlight, there was no other connection. I will try the load relief relay and see if that works.

That’s good news. It would be a good idea to get a proper replacement as I’m pretty sure the load relief relay is designed to take the higher load current than the small black relays.

For information, the load relief relay provides power for the heated grips, low and high beam, indicators, horn and fog lights if fitted. It’s designed that way so that when you press the start button, power to the load relief relay is removed chopping all those circuits so that maximum power is available to start the bike.

The tail light, and side light are all a safety function and will be on uninterrupted when ever ignition is on.
