Hi all,

The filler plug on my GSA's bevel box is seized solid.
I've tried heating around it, but to no avail.

Any thoughts? I've filled the bevel box through the breather hole - but it took ages. I could do with getting the plug shifted if possible to check the level.

Cheers all,

Rob

More heat. Needs to be at least hot enough so that spit sizzles & boils straight off. It's a big lump of metal and conducts heat well.

Don't worry about heating the plug as well as the case - you need to encourage differential expansion between the steel plug and alloy case to break the bond caused by corrosion.

Careful not to burn the gaiter - move it out of the way onto the shaft housing maybe.

Some good-quality penetrating oil (e.g. plus gas) not WD40 may help. GENTLY tap the plug anticlockwise & clockwise until it moves.

Good luck :thumby:
