I'm hoping someone can help out a newbie here...need to clean up the rear sub frame before rust becomes terminal.

I've read the earlier ('03) email re removing this but it doesn't mention the fixed brake pipe finishing at a welded bracket on the rhs of the sub-frame, with the pipe continuing through the bracket as the flexible brake pipe. The Clymer manual also doesn't mention it that I can see.

Is there a way to get the sub-frame off without disconnecting the brake pipe where it goes from fixed to flexible? (I'm a bit wary of undoing the connection to get it out and losing fluid, letting in air, and then being left with duff brakes - never bled any before).

I removed the sub-frame on my mates 1100 a couple of weeks ago, IIRC the pipe goes through a grommet held in an open frame bracket, it just pushes out the side.

Certainly didn't have to do anything like separating brake lines.

I had to remove most of mine to swing it up to replace washers on the rear fluid resoviour. Why oh why oh why do they fit corroding Al ones not brass?

With care for a "first time" job, it took about 1.5 hours to get it all to the point where it swings upright from the back of the tank. That, with a dust sheet/bit of masking tape to stop spills and overspray, would get you to the point where you could make good what you needed to.

Cheers chaps - that's a relief!

The two washers at the joint are rusty - and between them and the rubber grommet it hides enough to make it look like the bracket is 100% around the pipe.
