I traded in my faithful 2004 GS for a new 30th edition model at the weekend.
Time to inform my broker of the change 'easy I thought'.

Quite a shock when the nice lady at Bennetts informed me that the 30th edition was not on her list of acceptable models and they declined to cover me!!!

So after much trawling through the comparison websites I still couldnt find the model listed.

A call to the helpful slaes team at SBW put me in touch with BMW insurance. Now things started to get really surreal when they hadnt got a clue what I was talking about and had to make a special call to their underwirters and a couple of hours later I received a not unreasonable quote.

However I having accrued many years no claims on a multi bike policy I cant seem to cover my new bike and my Tuono all due to the fact that the GS 30isnt a standard model and I need two policy's one of which wont have he benefit of a no claim bonus.

Surely not everyone with a 30th model has had this problem ( or for that matter the GS Black) Or have you all insured as the standard model and are taking a risk that if you make a claim you cover will be invalid.

Or as is most likely Im missing a trick.

Any help will be appreciated.

The BuMW Motorrad policy (if that is what you are referring to) as administered by the monkeys at Devitt, is limited to just BuMW bikes. So you can't slap a non-BuMW bike onto it in addition. Dems da rools, boy.

Your Tuna (or whatever it's called) is made Lucilla (or summat like that) so a non-starter, I'm afraid.

It's a bit like walking in Sainsbury's and trying to buy a tin of Tesco's own-range baked beans. It just can't be done.

I wouldn't have even considered defining it was a 30th Anniversary edition as it's no different from the normal GS/GSA apart from the colour is it? Good job I don't have one :augie

Thanks for that and I understand that is the case but the point Im making is surely there must be other insurers who recognise the model if apart from BMW how will you get cover for what is essentially a standard bike but on the DVLA form it is titled differently and we all know how insurers will quibble at the slightest irregularity. Are other owners sitting on a potential problem if they need to claim.

The R1200GS 30 Years SE (and its Adventure, sibling) appears on Devitt's online quote engine 'drop down' list.

So, it's unclear what the Devitt monkey is chattering on about.

I suggest you refer whoever you spoke to at Devitt to it.

As does the Bennetts list but they wont quote it!! Which is rather wierd

So, now it's 'No quote', as opposed to, 'We have no idea what this bike is'?

In your opening post you told us that despite trawling you could not find the model listed. Now you tell us that you found it listed on Devitt's and Bennett's sites.

So, in short. Your bike and edition IS listed on two major brokers' sites, but you could not get a quote (for a reason or reasons unknown) from Bennett, nor add a Tuna to BuMW policy (reason why very clear) via Devitt.

The point I am trying to make is in our tick box culture it does not appear on the brokers list of motorcycles acceptable for instant cover and requires referal to the underwriter. As a result it cannot (according to Bennetts) be included on a multi bike policy.
The same requirement for referal for BMW Insurance which seems odd. I wouldnt expect that cover to extend to a multibike policy by the way.

The secondary point is to highlight that this model if not insured correctly could lead to cover problems in the event of a claim.

Is there a difference between the 30th anniversary model and a 'normal' GSA apart from the colour scheme ?

Just a few cosmetic changes - different bashplate & rocker cover protectors

Wasn't an issue when I added mine to my CN multi-bike policy
Just ut down what it says on the V10 -

BMW R1200GS Adventure - colour: white :thumb2

So all you GSers thats just bought the 'R1200GS Triple Black' have you got yours insured as such.:blast

Is the Triple Black edition listed with insurers:confused:

:Motomartin

Didn't know they were still selling the anniversary edition?

All sorted on a multibike policy at a reasonable price thanks to the people at Carol Nash who actually tried to sort things which is more can be said for Bennetts
