I need the brace for an adventure windscreen but they are like rocking horse droppings. They are £120 + VAT new and none about secondhand so how difficult or how complicated is this German fabrication.
Could it be made in say steel as opposed to aluminium if so could anyone tell me the dimensions etc or any details I might need.
If I'm talking b&b please say so .
But I do know the bolt sizes !!!

There is no reason the brace could not be made from steel. But it's yet another afterthought because they goofed the original screen design.

Spend the cash on a Givi AF-330. It's a much better screen and does not use the top brace. It's better still with Tobinators.

Thanks BT but I have just bought the screen as it was in great condition so am sort of committed to it. Just can't see what's that difficult in the brace that can't be copied or maybe improved but easiest solution would be to see one in the flesh !

GA, have patience and just keep asking! When I swapped to an adventure screen I picked up a used screen very easily, I hung out for ages for a screen brace but got one eventually. If the bike goes over they bend easily and some owners then replace them, I picked up a bent one that with a bit of time and care I managed to straighten to near perfect.

Patience is the one thing I don't have at my age, but yes I will keep looking/trying.
Thanks for your encouragement though.

A bent brace can be straightened by heating the bent curve(s). Get it really hot though not enough to melt!!!
The annealed metal will age harden over a week or two. Try it "cold" and the aluminium is likely to crack.

To make a brace. Fit the screen with 3mm thick spacer washers either side. Measure up and bend the tube to suit. It will need 3 x 25 strips steel brackets at the bottom. The top mounts could be P clips.

I can make stuff like that as could any reasonably competent engineer, why not borrow one from a fellow GSer & get it copied ;)

Otherwise sell the screen & buy a decent aftermarket one that doesn't need brace,Iv got the TT deserto on mine superb did have a vario before that which was much better than standard.

But the brace is a great place to mount the sat nav .....

Success, spent time phoning and emailing various people and found one used but useable !
Thanks for all your advise and guidance.

Babble who is on here has made them in steel. I have one, works a treat and is stronger than OE. Might be worth sending him a PM?

The OE brace has an angle to the end plates. BMW have their reasons but I can't see why they were not made with straight sides. It should be stiffer and easier to make.
