The demonstrator that I rode, about 3 years ago it seems, had a problem with the screen. It rattled and vibrated at low revs. Part of the problem appears to have been the inadequate plastic bolts that secure the front of the screen at it's lower edge.

Now TT offer, at a hugely inflated price that reflects the value we attribute to such branded items, a different pair of screws and also a support bracket that mounts on the nacelle bar and supports the screen further up.

My question(s) are:

1) On later bikes is this screen vibration/bolt problems still an issue?

2) Do the 12's Tobinators sort it out as a bi-product of their intended function?

3) Any thoughts on the effectiveness of the TT spoilers?

I think that's it really, thanx in anticipation.

1. Maybe. My original ones were changed under warranty and were no problem after that.

2. Yes

3. Don't know.

1) Mine is decent.
2) Yes, they don't rattle at the bottom.
3) I think Kave has got one of those

But, I think you've pinpointed the problem yourself:
It rattled and vibrated at low revs.

Stop doing that low revs malarkey! :D ;) ;) ;) ;)

Stop doing that low revs malarkey!

Yeah but that was only on the way from tickover to high revs!:D :D :D

Then you drop the clutch

:D :D :D

Thanx for your replies. I think that Tobinators may be the best approach to it all.

OK, I'm used to wild claims about Tobinators, all entirely justified of course :D but I just want to make sure everyone is clear on this one. The 1200 Tobinators bolt into the same plastic front mounts as the standard screen, so I wouldn't want claim that they cure the rattling problem.

If they cured your rattling problem then I am extremely pleased (and somewhat elated at potential unexpected increased product functionality).

However, what does cure the rattling is to wrap PTFE tape around the pins before slotting them snugly back into place.

Cheers!

Andy

Hi Wraith

I bought the TT spoiler.
Must admit to it being alot quieter now.
Because the screen mounts are all at the bottom. low rev shake and high speed flex is a feature.
TT do a shiny thing that jams in between the screen and the instrument cluster subframe that supports the screen further up that is supposed to eliminate this. Tho a pair of gloves or a piece of wood jammed in there would probably achieve the same result. But its jewellry innit!!!!!

They also do more robust bottom screen mounting pins.
I have decided to go the Tobinater route to lift the whole screen up and back to get more air behind the screen. My theory is that this should create another boundary layer to smooth things out a bit more.
Awesome bike, does it for me!!!

Right then, back to the Hugger thread, great fun!!!

Just reread your post properly....der.

Think your Q,s have been answered really.

Basically I think Tobinaters stop the buffeting.

The TT spoiler quietens things down alot. Depending how tall you are!

The TT Screen support thingy stops it shaking/flexing.

Tobers PTFE tape fix on the bottom mounts stops the rattling. Regardless of whether BMW have improved the mount on later bikes.

But screens are subjective and every body needs a slightly different configuration.

The above fixes address the basic problems and then its a fine tune job.

Cheers and enjoy.

It did cure my rattling problem ! :D

it cost £3 to replace the front mounts with bmw replacements - no rattles now.
