So I have pulled the pin on a GS and really looking forward to picking it up. It's a base model.

First job is to complete the 12K service, still to get a GS-911 or OBD thingy

My question is what mods would do as a priority?

Engine bars, headlight protector, fender extender's, K&N filter, aux lights

Or even no mod's and speed the cash on touring.

Touratech engine bars and BMW head covers. Givi handguard extenders.
Ferry ticket to Santander.

Thanks,

So head protectors, headlight guard (unfortunately i'm not a paid up forum member, worth paying up ?) are the two main ones

What does the handguard extenders bring to the party?

I'm surprised that front wheel fender extender has not been mentioned, i thought that would protect from pitting....

In my experience the handguard extenders catch extra wind blast from passing trucks on the motorway and upset the steering, so I got rid of them.

Fender extenders help, I would go for the rear one first (the one that cable ties to the frame) as it keeps much off the shock and prolongs it’s life. The front one won’t hurt, I’ve never had a bike without one (I’m on my third GS)

Bigger screen with a top spoiler and the brackets to strengthen the assembly are worth getting if you do a lot of motorways, as are the wunderlich deflectors that go around the tank.

Mudsling, engine bars, auxiliary lighting, panniers. Job done.

I do motorway daily, do you have some example links to products?

Cheers

The Headlight guard I posted the link to is a clear plastic one with prices starting at £18.99

Yes Deffo the front fender extender- you did say extenders in your 1st post so thought you meant both front and rear. MachineArt do the front one and the mudsling which keeps the crap off the rear shock.

Handguard extenders are good if you're riding all year round as they help keep more of the wind off the backs of your hands. Evilbay do copies if you don't fancy paying through the nose for all 3.

On my new 1250 I put on Mudsling, fender extender, headlight guard (poster on here sells them) and radiator guards.

I specified it with engine bars and spotlights both of which are good upgrades.

It is worth paying for forum membership even if it’s just for the sales section. One good buy will save the cost.

I’m now saving up for decent tyres which is the next upgrade.

Deflectors:

I’ve been through several permutations of deflectors and screens, the above combination is the best I’ve found so far for low noise and minimal buffeting at motorway speeds.

Fender extender or CyMarc engine guard for the front, and mudsling for the rear. Why do you need engine bars and aux lights, save your money imo.
