Hi guys, can anyone advise on this issue? Can I attempt to fault find this myself or do I have to take the bike in to my BMW dealer?

Symptom: Intermittent EWS error when switching on the ignition

- The ring antenna has been replaced under the callback
- With the bike on the centrestand and the handlebars turned fully right or center I get the EWS error when switching on the ignition
- With the handlebars turned fully left there is no error and all is good, I can repeat this condition consistently
- I have loosened the plastic protective cap behind the ring antenna and reseated the connector after spraying it with some water repellent lub (Q20)
- If I apply a little pressure on the wiring harness that runs from the left handlebar cluster unit the error does not appear, thus indicating there is a wiring issue, either in this bundle of wires or where it runs into the main loom coming from the ignition and ring antenna.

Can I cut this wiring loom open and attempt to find the guilty party or should I not risk causing more damage? :nenau

Can't see it being anything to do with the left switch, more likely where they bunch together and beyond. I don't know what the makup of the ring antenna wiring is but in theory it could be screened which would stop you stripping it. If it isn't screened then depending on your abilities go for it, I would.

If you feel confident the try it yourself, it appears to be a wiring issue, and I cant see bumW doing anymore that replacing parts anyway. I have a similar headlight issue, but if i push the connectors together firmly it goes away for a month or two. I told bumW about the problem, they did exactly the same...and it came back. These are the type of problems they don't like. and they charge by the hour.

You could also just stop turning your handlebar all the way to the right when on the center stand..:D

sounds like you have to do something so why not run a new cable from the antenna to its final destination, leave the old one where it is and just insulate the unused ends somewho

chances are eventually some other wires may go the same way, hope not but by then you may need a more permanent repair (did I hear that BMW do looms for this area??)
