R1200gs 2013 onwards paint peeling

Hi all my dad has noticed on 2013 plate r1200gs that the paint on the underside of his engine the paint is peeling off, also around the undersides of the cylinders. So I have checked mine and found the same thing.
Is anyone else having this problem or have contacted bmw to see if anything can be done under warranty

Quite a few, have a search. It ranged from new engine or whatever to new bike. Age, mileage and general condition will play a part in it as well.

If its in warranty & has been looked after, they will change out engine / gearbox / rear end etc without much of a fight - all rather civilised I got the engine / gearbox at about 18 months / 4500 miles - it will be the later engine (heavier flywheel) which IMHO is much sweeter. Speak nicely to your dealer - good luck!

I too had mine changed under warranty. Mine was about 18 months old with 7K on the clock.

Well as we speak, BMW are currently installing:

Third engine
Third final drive
A new ESA rear shock ;-)

First lot of rot was after 9 months or so, this latest bout after 6 months!!

Mines in a heated garage so hopefully Ok? Don't think any European manufacturer is coping with being forced to use solvent free paints / lacquers? Japanese bikes still painted with solvent based paint

Wouldn't want to be returning a bike on a P.C.P. deal. I can see all sorts of problems arising over corrosion and valuation issues !

The depreciation should be written into the deal. It's well known the finish is shit therefore it's a standard feature. Any returned in good condition should attract a premium. Course you could always get several engine and fd replacements to keep it in top order.
