Fitted a heated waistcoat this morning; nice and toasty on the way into work :-)

When I disconnected the battery terminals to connect the wire, I noticed each terminal sparked. This suggests the bike was drawing power from the battery, but it was switched off (key wasn't even in the ignition).

Is this possible? It could explain why the bike seems to struggle to start these days and why when I plugged my charger in last night it shot straight up to 2A. I know it keeps time but that shouldn't take more than a few milliamps. There's nothing else wired in to the bike.

Maybe I should consider an optimate. Seems a bummer though when a brand new £10K bike can't keep itself fully charged despite daily usage, or perhaps 5 miles twice a day Mon-Fri isn't enough for it?

The Canbus system will keep power to the system (for ancillaries etc) for up to 15 minutes after turning off the ignition.

I guess than Canbus itself must contunue to draw a tad of power after that in order to monitor the sockets for the pukka BMW charger etc.

What sort of charger are you using? A car type charger will give too much current and will fry the battery if left on for more than a couple of hours.

This canbus thing is a right pain. In the handbook it says that if you start the bike with say a heated waist coat plugged in, then the socket will be isolated with no power. But that's ok, because after 5 mins it will return.

Mine doesn't. The bike's new.

Not chuffed.
