Hi,

Has anyone got any views on fitting Hepco & Becker engine and fuel tank protection bars to an 08 1200GS ? The ones that look similiar to the GSA version. I was considering these plus also the pair of micro lights that are sold to go on these bars.

+ a lot on the engine guards. I lowsided my 07 at about 30 mph on a roundabout the other night. The engine protection bars and trax panniers took a slight beating but the rest of the bike was untouched.

They are very good. The lowers are a bit of a bugger to fit and need a fair bit of strength to do so and the uppers need someone to stand holding them in position while you teighten them initially.

Good quality, look good and im sure they would do the job in the event of a drop.

I took about 4 hours to fit them properly. :)

SW Motech make some really nice bars, fitted the engine and upper bars plus some hella fogs, looks rather nice I think :D

IMO they dont look nearly as nice as the hepco and becker ones though - the h and b ones have a smoother profile and look less like a wiffly bit of metal and if you're into this kinda thing, look alot like the adventure bars

Thanks guys.
It's a personal choice but I also prefer the look of the H&B bars.

why is that ?? my lower bars fitted together perfectly with no force required at all, they were fitted in about 20 mins.

H&B engine bars - spot on and a piece of cake to fit :thumb2. H&B tank bars were a pain in the arse - both to fit and in use :(. You can't remove the tank panels with them in so you either have to loosen them considerably and attempt to get the panels off without scratching them or take the damned things off completely.
I too bought them for that 'Adventure' look and as a useful mounting point for my PIAA's. Stuck with the tank bars for six months and then got shot and bought a Migsel light bar instead. My ten-penneth worth - for what it's worth.

Thanks guys for your comments and thanks Expat. The pictures show that they seems to follow the profile of the bike very well.
