Seen at Motorrad Central in Glasgow today, was a spanking new Graphite Grey BMW R1200GS, hot off the production line, with a number of rather obvious (& welcome) production mod's.....

1) Delete hazard switch (already reported elsewhere)
2) Enhanced paint finish to all areas, particularly frame, engine, fork yoke & bottoms, handlebars etc......very noticably improved......
3) Delete 1200GS graphic from rear seat panel.
4) Different rear shock....smaller spring diameter and different pre-load adjuster.
5) Different rear shock plastic shroud....without 'flat spot' tyre clearance area.
6) Different front shock with smaller diameter spiring.
7) Completely new side stand...thicker & shorter tube (due to frame changes)....different footprint......
8 ) New centre stand.....straight crossbar instead of curved.....more robust overall.....
9) New frame weld on's at the bottom to support new side/centre stands.
10) Brushed stainless steel exhaust cover instead of chrome.
11) Relocation of rear brake light switch to behind frame element to keep away from potential impact.
12) More robust centre stand rubber stops, moved to offside.

Dealers were not notified of these changes......look like production rationlisation to make more parts common with R1200GSA.....

Cheers

When you say "delete Hazard switch" do you mean that the bike no longer has hazard warning lights?
It just isn't a separate button for it. Push both indicator switches at the same time and you still have hazard warning lights.

In my opinion much better as it is easier to give a short four way flash when riding this way.

The hazard switch also served to indicate how long juice was going to the accessory socket. I wonder if that function has been retained somewhere else...

What do youi mean by this? Sounds interesting?

When you switch the ignition off the hazard warning switch light stays on, and the accessory sockets stay on for up to 15min.

I assume that the light goes off at the same time as the socket.

Graphite grey? I knew I shouldn't have posted those pics. Copying b****ds.

I never realised that!

Hi Dutchman - thanks for the details - how did you spot everything? All changes sound external - any internal - gearbox/engine? Thanks.

Na - they realised the only people who hadn't bought 12GSs yet where the boring old farts that don't like coloured bikes so now they are offering a dull lifeless non-colour to cater for their needs.

Having owned four of these beasties over the last 18 months or so, coupled with the fact we work with them, it was easy enough to spot these mods.......although I didn't take my spanners with me to take examine the internals.......

Dealer knew nothing about the mods.........until I started to point them out.......so they don't know if the internals have any mods either....

Cheers

On older models you need the hazard switch to turn them off again though.

I like the sound of the rear brake switch change, I'm forever getting mine bashed or clogged with foliage etc :)

Now that most of the guinea pigs for BMW have spotted the faults it is sort of nice to see they are making improvements. Let the flak begin and Merry Christmas. :thumb

My local dealer only knew about the hazard switch change in advance, and the others came as a surprise. Couple of photos at http://tinyurl.com/b7d5v but they weren't specifically taken to show the changes.

Pity about the crap toolkit (see another thread).
