Following this thread with interest as getting 1200gs in a couple of weeks. So far I see recommendations for:
Fender extender
Oil Cooler Cover
Hugger
GPS (got one)
Crash Bars, is there anything wrong with BMW ones? My dealer is throwing them in gratis as they were paid for by someone but strangely never collected.
Been browsing Touratech site, lots of lovely goodies admittedly, but I wonder how many serve a really useful purpose to the average rider?
The item that intrigues me is the instrument cowl if only for the fact it puts an aux power socket at the front and saves me buying another GPS power cable
Those covers for the side exhausts do your boots really get burnt as they claim? Is that why Altbergs have got such thick soles:)

hello guys,

bloody hell! there are so many things to add to the 1200!

according to my dealer i should be getting my baby early next month and honestly i do not know where to start with the add ons!

top box for instance, which brand, bm's own expandable (bloody expensive especially with coded locks but it is cool) or givi ( the rounded shape does not suit the bike but their biggest one can hold two helmets), how about hepco & becker?

now here are a few ignorant questions; should i have a hugger or a fender? (i must admit, the carbon ones by dutchman & co. are cool. but is it a necessity?) why didn't bmw designed them in the bike in the first place? are they stupid or what? (hope you make loadsa money dutchman!)
now, tank bags covers, why have them when it spoils the looks of the original looks and paint job of the bikes?

honestly i am stuck and not sure what to add on or buy? especially when it comes to the top boxes as i need them for my daily commute. incidently, can the bm ones hold 2 helmets? and can they be removed and carried about like a small case?

just so much to choose from! look!

happy riding!

Hi Tiger...

Had my 12 for 3-4 weeks and have already ordered a hugger & fender special from the Dutchman, The 12 is a cracking machine to ride, but is the pits when ridden in rain or on wet roads – its just plain filthy. The left heel and underside of your left thigh will reflect the colour of the road s**t you’ve ridden on. Should you have a pillion, on a naked bike (no boxes), then his/her back will be soaking below their shoulder blades.

Others have said that the hugger & fender special solve this, I hope they are not exaggerating since the gear is not cheap.......

The bike is great tiger, so enjoy when it comes.....

Are Hepco & Becker engine guards the best ones to go for and what about the front mudguard extender and rear hugger - who makes the best ones?

GPS & intercom probably won't be a bad idea as we intend to go to Norway next year from the South all the way to the top, returning via some other countries. Guess I'd need a screen extender to cut down on the number of mosquitos squashed against my visor! Any ideas on when the best period to go there is baring in mind that a) we don't like mosquitos, and b) want to see the Northern lights or whatever they're called (as you can see we haven't done much research into it yet!)

3 months to go for the bike arrives :)

I can't for the like of me understand why you're planning a trip to Norway to see the northern lights , especially when you have Corus's plant just down the road in Port Talbot.

Extras

Doesn't GPS fly in the face of biking surely on your two weeks around Europe or wherever you walk out the hotel/tent and go where the sun is shining. Like it matters if you get lost. My mum and dad do holidays like that with a company called Shearings
