r1200gs or yamaha xtz1200 ze

well thats as clear as mud, now i dont know what to do, i did look at the triumph 1200 and will ride it later in the year, if i could fine a low milage late tc i would buy it, or i could spend some money on mine give it a bit of tlc and just keep riding it as now it fits me like a glove and all the paint that is going to fall off thas:P. So for the moment i will just keep looking and reading and see what happens, thanks for all your help

Ride both and make your decision based on what works for you, for me, disappointed in the GS and will probably move to a different marque in a year or so. Loving the look of the Ducati Scrambler that comes out in March. Maybe a cheeky second bike ;

Forget reading ! Go on some long long test rides. See if somewhere will let you have one for a couple of days or so - only you can decide what you like, you will be the one riding it and living with it. Ding has some sound advice though above, get an extended warranty if you get a 2nd hand one....

problem with saying test it and then buy after that, the gsa lc I tested had very good suspension and gearbox the one I bought new has not. bmw consistancy of build quality has slipped whereas the japanese stuff seems a lot better.
Also bm seems to have developed an even greater couldn't give a flying f@ck attitude to customer support over the past few years

Nonsense. Their customer support is better than most other manufacturers. This is from personal experience (I had a bike replaced by them in 2013), and reading through other forums.

You need a good dealer to fight your corner. If you have a crap dealer, then you have a lesser chance of a good result from BMW.

The only flaw in your argument.....................it should have be ok in the first place and never been allowed through QC ~ people seem to forget that the onus is on BMW to get it right, not the customer to find out or have to tell them, through persistent complaints and dissatisfaction :blast

:augie

(It wasn't only only one either:eek:)

You're right, it should be.:thumb But it's how BMW deal with any problem bikes that is important. The customer has to go back to the dealer with any issues, and the dealer will go to BMW. If your dealer is a shower of shite (they are out there, but I won't name names), you'll have a much tougher job getting a resolution.

With over 40,000 WC GS/ GSA's sold in 2014, they're obviously doing something right, but that's not what people want to read about on Internet forums.:rolleyes::augie

Well, after 15 years or so on GSs I am close to cracking after 6 moths of WC GSA ownership. I was in the Yam dealers in Saturday after my bikes 4th unscheduled visit to the dealers and some 5 weeks off the road. Build quality is not a patch on the S10 ....and for that matter, previous BMs.

The WC is a great bike...if you have one that works properly...mine doesn't....although I have to say the dealer has been excellent....and to be fare so has BMW in trying to sort the issues. My problems may be a one off but I have now lost confidence in the bike being able to carry me and my wife to Split in May without incident.

So had a go on the 2015 S10 with electronic suspension...and you know what....it wasn't half bad. Not as good as the GSA but it did have the compelling feature of actually working. There was a punter there on his S10 which had 45k on the clock in 3 years. No dodgy switchgear...all the paint was still attached no lurch as the thing went into first and the suspension worked...well. All quite compelling sales features in my book....should be in the brochure.

Depending on the outcome with BMW I could well be in the market.

I once swapped a troublesome ducati for a Brand new R1 and hated it. I would never be so hasty to chip in a bike again because one month down the line you are wishing you were riding the other and looking at them with envy. Bike purchases should ideally not be about something not being 'half bad'.

Whats the saying, you dont know what youve got till its gone.

I once swapped a troublesome wife for a better low maintenance one.

How's it been left with BMW? Have you officially rejected the bike?

Not yet....they're giving it anther crack and hopefully will sort out....lots of contact with the boys back in Deutschland...still no answers yet but starting to lose patience.

Get Nutty involved, he knows all BMW's buttons

GS LC and GSA LC combined are over 30,000 units all around the world ....

people choose with their wallets.

Now here's a thought or two;

Dealers a plenty, at home & abroad.. If things go wrong there's someone within shouting distance..
2 year warranty that can easily be extended..
My GS WC nearly perfect now it's run in & niggles settling down or sorted by dealer..
Plenty of aftermarket 'farkles' to choose from if u so desire..
A good selection of used equipment always available (panniers etc)..

Now down to the nitty gritty.. after taking the above into consideration;
For me it's about how the bike feels whilst it's underneath me, I don't like to be perched on top but rather a part of the bike (if you know what I mean) the riding position is important..
I've tried other bikes then got back on mine & thought to myself I can't quite bring myself to change, I would feel I had jumped ship & continually be wanting another BMW..
Don't get me wrong, I'm tempted by both KTM & Ducati, love the looks BUT there's something not quite right about either (for me anyway) I'm 5' 10" & 13 stone, I'm sure a persons size needs to be taken into consideration, after all we arn't all the same..
So, I recommend a good road test, & then another before purchase..
Good luck..

There's a few more than that out there; they sold over 40,000 in 2014 alone.

It sounds like they've had enough chances, and are fobbing you off. Grab the bull by the horns, and officially reject the bike, or you'll be stuck with a bike you don't ride.
