Gary, lovely looking bike and appears to be in great condition. What sort of mileage is on it and how did your deal work out if you do not mind me asking.:)

Bought the R1200GS for about £10k, trade-in for £8000. Bought the R1150RT six months later for £8k with 11,000 on the clock. (all approx.)

I know what you mean about the the GS vibes... my R1100R is as smooth as anut in comparison.

I was interested to see your write up about the day warning lights - -are these legal? What colour are they?

I'm considering the move from my 1200GS to an 1150RT...my previous 1150GS was a great bike and as a year round rider the RT fairing is starting to appeal...I wonder if any new 1150RT's are still gathering dust anyone know of one?

LED Lights

Nikos,

I've looked into the legality of these lights in some detail. As far as I can ascertain they are legal if operated only on "steady " mode i.e. no flashing modes - of which there are 19 to choose from! The lights are white but red, blue, green and amber are also available.

The LED's used in these lights are the same generation (I think) as used on the latest Audi A6 and A8, the one's with the LED daytime lights low down at the front. These are legal so mine should be okay as well. It is also important that they do not dazzle other road users so I've also installed a switch to allow me to easily switch them off.

Nice RT-P conversion , did you bring over the crash bars from the US ? I went from 1150 twin spark to a 1200RT which is far superior ....in red;)

I've got an 1150RT and an 1100GS, best of both worlds IMO.

Both excellent bikes at what they do, the RT can hustle better than people imagine;)

I had originally planed to buy these protection bars new but was quoted around £1600 plus. It took me nine months to find a second-hand set from motorworks hete in the UK. Got the whole set for £400 and a radio box for £70.

I demo'd the R1200RT but it was too costly at the time and I preferreed the looks of the R1150RT or rather the RT-P look which was what I really wanted as a project.

Me too

I too went from a 1200GS to an 1150 RT.

Thus far the only drawback in my opinion is the extra vibration of the 1150 engine compared to the 1200. However I think that the RT is better in most other respects.

I looked at the 1200RT but at the time the cheapest second hand one I could find was some 2000pounds more and I don't think it's that much better (Plus I prefer the look of the 1150 but that's just my opinion).

I wouldn't decry anyone who wants a GS, 1150 or 1200, however I find that the RT suits me better and I'm glad I made the change.

Plus at 34 I'm the youngest RT rider I know! People often do a double take!

Gary,

I went the other way from 1150RT to GS.

I know what you mean, and I miss the RT too! - but having said that, I like the GS as well.

ps - I think that I saw you riding by North Berwick yesterday? - nice bike:thumb

Yes, I'd stopped off in North Berwick on my way to photograph the Witches Stone in Spott for my site Ancient Stones I'm re-visiting the sites where I can get my bike to and taking a new image along with the bike. Daft, but why not?

Didn't see many bikes yesterday. Where you riding?
