Hello everyone I'm a newbie and have just disposed of a Multistrada to return to the GS fold. My bike should arrive next week, I have joined this Forum as most of the UK sites seem to have little or no posts on the water cooled GS which seems a bit strange after nearly two years of production ?
On my last GS (2012) I fitted Decat pipes and a decent silencer whilst retaining the original butterfly valve unit which sat between the front pipes and the silencer, However on the new water cooled engine the butterfly valve is now part of the front pipe/Cat unit and as such you have to remove it to fit decat front pipes either with or without a new silencer. My concern is that by removing this butterfly valve it might put on the engine warning light and throw up a fault code, and my dealer was unable to give me an answer on this point. Has anybody been there ???
I also wonder if leaving off the butterfly valve will compromise the low down torque even with the decat set up.
I guess the best way will be to disconnect the cable and start the engine which I can do when bike arrives. (I know on the Multistrada you have to fool the ECU into thinking the butterfly valve is still there.)

Hi and welcome.
I think a few on here have done it.
I would like a full system on my bike but wouldn't it screw up the warranty

i have the full akra system got rid of the exhaust valve and cat the best thing i have done loads more bottom end and midrange grunt no fuelling problems at all the best mod i have done
very simple job took me about two hours all in go for it you won't regret it

Just about to install some AKRA headers to do this very thing...going the expensive route and having the dealer install them along with a PC5 and dyno tune as to not cause warranty issues...i hope.

By removing the valve it looks like you'll create a trough at round 2,800 that without fueling control to even it out it might be annoying.

I've replaced my standard headers for Akra, and there is no trough (not that I can notice) at 2800rpm.:nenau

As above, go for it, it's the best mod I've done on my bike.:thumb

Nutty, any chance of some pics of the pipes?

This is the only one I have at the moment

Decat Pipes

Well thanks for all the feedback, I was a bit concerned about loosing the butterfly valve, but no one has said if the engine management light comes on when the butterfly valve goes missing ?
I was looking at the Remus decat pipes as they are one piece and a bit cheaper than the Ackro set

you have to leave the servo motor on and disconnect the cables no lights will flash up if you look on the thread akra headers all the information is there hope this helps

Got my AKRA headers installed today along with some dyno pulls with the stock muffler...which yielded a result I was not expecting...all top end!!

Don't have the torque graph yet that will be Monday...but here is the HP...120 ARW :D

My PC5 is arriving next week so the plan is feed it some more fuel as its running slightly lean.

Is that with a remap, or out the box?

hello
looks like loosing the butterfly valve hasn't made any serious dents in the power curve, hope the torque curve comes out just as good.
Did the engine warning light come on ?
Just got my new 2014 gs w/c yesterday now have to run in, managed 120 miles yesterday in the rain, suppose that's better than snow !

No warning lights will come on, as long as you don't turn the ignition before you install everything.

Stock mapping.

The Air/Fuel curve shows its running a little lean... it is OK to ride like that but could be optimised closer to the magic 13.0 to extract more.

PC5 pulls will be next weekend if my water pump and switch cluster come in.

What does the PC5 do, and how does it work?

Don't bother, the plug in connectors still let water in (my mates did) but if you push them in with some silicon grease there fine, when you connect the pc loom into the original it looks untidy.

Also with a pc5 you will need Dyno time unless you buy the autotune (this alters the fueling as you ride but still need a base map) to go with the pc5, for both items I'd recon you are looking at £500 ish . However you can plug the power commander quickshifter directly into the pc5 (i used this method on my TC) but that's another £200 for there quickshifter.

This is all giving me a headache!:comfort:D

I'm no riding god, and the bike feels fantastic with the full Akra system, so I'll leave it at that.:thumb Apart from the quick shifter!:D
