Hi All,

I've got a 2006 GSA which has 51,000 miles on the clock. It is mechanically in very good nick but has cosmetic issues in three main areas:

The timing cover paint is peeling off
The hub paint isn't great
I've resprayed it myself so it is ok but not factory
The alloy panniers are oxidised, but not pitted

I think the cosmetic issues are easily recoverable although I'm not sure of the easiest approach with the hubs.

The £12k question is should I spend a relatively small amount on tarting it up or should I get it into presentable condition and part-ex it with a load of cash for a 2010 GSA?

They look great and I like the yellow one but I'm not sure its worth the cost given the paltry amount I will be offered in exchange for mine.

Blowzorn says get a new one or wait for the 6 cylinder LT but he's :ymca

Suggestions on a post card please...

Thanks.

Spruce your up, you'll get sod all in part-ex

Older battered GSA's have 'character' :D

Keep it :thumb2

Whether you tart it up or not, the issues you mention are merely cosmetic after all...

And why pump your money into the Dealer network, the Factory etc.

Spend it on some traveling instead ~ :beerjug:

If you really think there's such a vast difference between new and old I would tart it up and sell/buy private, there's enough '09s cropping up:confused:, I have an '06 and really don't think it's worth the money chopping her in, mind you mine only has 12k on the clock :augie (before you take the p*ss Army service means being unable to ride the majority of the time:( )

There isnt much in the difference really.
Performance - not a lot, a full system on yours would add a bit.
Looks - the same to the untrained eye.
Handling - same and its down to tyres and how big is your balls anyway.
Bling - a good bit more bling on a specked up new one.

Look at yours as a blank canvas, no warantee so you can change what you like, it would be nice to make a real tonka toy look. matt black or camoflage.

Actually, it is matt black with yellow side panels and beak extension at the moment.

I'm thinking of painting it 09 GSA red or 10 GSA yellow as I like both of those colour schemes. I took loads of photos at Garmisch last year looking for inspiration and the best paint job by far was done in KTM orange

There was an 08 GS at the track day yerserday, a quick lady owner.
I am sorry i did not get a picture, BMW racing colours with the the blue piping and a nice set of aftermarket seats. looked great.

Keep it!

You'll probably get a silly PX- you know your one is a good 'un, so keep it and do a bit of farkling.

Put the other pennies aside for that 6cyl LT ;)

High millage and bikes dont mix (unless its a BMW)

My Vstrom had 22k on the clock and dealers just didnt want to even look at it never mind take it in PX.

If it runs well and not costing , you enjoy it , whats the point in a new one (apart from the New bike thing)

Why not buy a nice ducati sports for £3k and have some fun :D

That will be the lovely Orla from your parish.:thumb

I think her site name is Dakar Gal but I may be wrong.

Gazzabart - waaaay too clean but I really like the look of white and it is the new black....I have a new set of Spyke white and black one piece leathers and Sidi race boots. :-)

I really don't know what to do with my panniers. I definitely don't want to polish them though. I'd love to get mine half a clean as yours and the rear LED light cluster and indicators are very nice.

I took my crash bars, head guards, pannier rails and rack off and powder coated them black last year. It made a big improvement and I've no idea why BMW do a black frame and forks and silver add-ons. Oh wait, its TT that make the add-ons which explains the disconnect. No excuse though. I will do the stands this year.

Thanks for pointing me towards your photos.

No harm in asking your dealer what they would take for yours against a newer bike (you might be pleasantly surprised by the value of used bike prices lately). I did that out of curiousity and ended up doing a deal on the newer bike, I pick in up in a couple of days time.

My 2004 1200 with full luggage and satnav is still a lovely bike, but the temptation to go for an ADV which wasn't originally available when I bought mine was too good to miss.
