My plan for this coming winter was to get a bit of weather protection for the 1200R (already have an ugly Givi screen which I use on tour) and decided to fit Memphis Shades lowers - really meant for cruisers. Pic shows them loosely fitted last night but I didn't get a chance to try them out until this morning (weather typically foul :thumb2). After a couple of short test runs I eventually dropped them down the forks by about 2 inches. They don't foul the tank, even at full(ish) lock on slow bumpy turns.

The results were actually better than expected - my leathers were dry from just below the knee upwards and I sat in a nice pocket of relative calmness, even whilst making progress on the motorway. I'd say that they raise the comfortable cruising speed by at least 15mph. No noticeable effect on engine cooling either, even after 45 mins of quick riding. Too early to say if they will help during cold weather but I suspect they will. It doesn't turn the bike into an RT, it just increases the comfort for a low outlay, albeit they aren't pretty....

I don't really like adding (probably unnecessary) protection to naked bikes as it spoils the looks but I'll see how I get on once the weather turns consistently nasty and I'll just take them off during warmer weather (although they could be useful during those surprise continental downpours).

Had to purchase them online from the US and cost just under £80 delivered (5 days). Harley dealers probably stock them though.

Rain has stopped so here's a couple more pics (with lowers adjusted to correct position). Not pretty, but effective :D

I looked online to order some and you have to specify a year make and model. The makes only show honda and Harley.
Which ones did you get please?
Thanks

Yeah, they don't list them for BMW because cruiser forks have a much larger diameter. I just took pot luck and ordered the M9891 fitting kit (with 61912 plastics). Unfortunately the fitting ring was far to wide (even at it's narrowest setting) and I had to cut strips of rubber off an old mudflap to "pad it out". They do a couple of fitting kits but you'd have to make sure you order the one with a smaller diameter than the M9891 and, even then, some padding may be required. Having said that, the rubber strips ensure that the mounts stay firmly in place.

Hope that this helps.

Mine were purchased from Motorcycle-superstore.com although other retailers sell them and may have better sizing info (not that I found any!).

Edit - total cost was £89 (very expensive shipping but fast)

That is soooo ugly!

Why not just buy a touring bike (or a GSA)?
