R1200RT clutch

Out of interest; who are you sending it to?
Charlie at BBR.

I spoke to him first as he worked on my bikes at CW, remembered I’d had a red GSA. He quoted for the job and is happy to do it whilst we are away so I will ride it down there and catch the train back to Tisbury or Salisbury.

May I ask what the quote is ??

Parts wise, some quote for just the friction plate. That's a false economic. You need to do the whole assembly or there is a big chance you'll be doing the whole lot again pretty soon.

Charlie at BBR is an ex CW BMW mechanic, he always did a good job before so I’m confident he will do what is necessary. This is a 60,000 mile bike so we have to be realistic about what is worth doing. I’m using it as a winter bike.

He has quoted for friction plates and oil seals, but knows what to do once it’s opened up.

I've got no reason to question his competence. Although I can't understand why he's only changing the friction plate after spending all day getting to into it. 'It looks alright' isn't a reason. It makes absolutely no sense unless to do that unless it's a job you haven't done before and haven't been bitten by that mistake yet.

It really isn't much more to buy the assembly. Most places sell it as a kit. And the bolts are single use too..

I was really only interested in the price to see where I sit in the market. I'm being nosey. But I obviously do appreciate that there are multiple factors when it comes to pricing up a job. 👍

Thanks for clarifying your post as a result we will have that discussion. There is additional work I’ve asked for whilst it’s on the bench and in bits. Its not appropriate to discuss the agreed price but it’s within my perceived budget or the amount I was prepared to spend on the bike.

So, how bad was the clutch? And friction plates only or the whole assembly?

Picked it up on Friday, plates and four oil seals plus a small service, all very good.

I rode it back, parked it up probably until next autumn and now on the Ducati.
