Anyone got any experience of the BMW 'Comfort' seat for the R1200RT? How does it compare to the original. Is it worth spending money on one? I find the standard heated seat to be uncomfortable after an hour or so! Certainly one of the things which impressed me on the test drive was the quality of the seat, though I now find it a bit of a let down!

I prefer the comfort seat on my RT as its wider. Mind you, I didn't think the standard seat was bad. Not compared to my previous GS saddle.

I found the comfort seat pushed me forwards slightly and locked me into one position.

As I like to move around when scratching on twisty roads, I didn't like this and I also found that because I wasn't moving around it caused the sciatica in my left hip to flair up again.

I think you'd be better buying a Sargent or Corbin saddle etc. The Sargent I fitted to my VFR800 transformed it from maybe 1-2 hours comfort to all day comfort.

Personally I didn't like it as much as the original so another member of this church got a bargain. Maybe I have a strange arse

Thanks for your replies folks! 2 - 1 against the 'comfort' so far. The Sargent looks nice, though is more expensive. I've tried an Airhawk, though didn't like it; even with very little air in it, I found the floating sensation uncomfortable.
I have a sheepskin which I'll try next as a cheap fix. Regards to all!

Get yourself a second hand Sargeant. I had one on my RT & loved it, I could ride for 10 hours with only 1 or 2 fuel stops & got off the bike without an ache, pain or even a twinge. As soon as the new GSA comes out I shall be looking for one on this forum for my 2013 GSA.

I cant understand this, if BMW are selling two seats for the RT and one is a comfort seat what is the other one

The "Iron-Butt" Seat (for serious long-distance riders) ?????

I used to do 900+ mile days on my K1200GT (the Brick model) and I've done over 1,000 miles in a day on my 1150GSA. I find the standard seats on the newer tourers to be OK.

However, if you want an arse like a Baboon try doing 600 miles on a standard 100GS . . . Agony!

:D :D :D

(I must stop visiting this site, I've been fancying a 1200RT Twin-Cam for a while now . . Is it worth a divorce :nenau).

Bob.

Yes, and I'm very grateful. It keeps my svelte, bony little arse ever so comfy ;)

I have the comfort seat and I really like it. It's wider, slightly lower but because it's wider it is a wee bit more of a stretch to the ground. I can spend all day on the comfort seat whereas I couldn't on the standard and it feels more locked in to the bike which I like, so I am on the bike rather than on the bike. I think it looks better too. The wee back rest is very nice as we'll. horses for courses and seats for arses.

I bought the RT Sargeant seats from Timaloy. I got to agree with him, they are a definite improvement over the standard - for me anyway.

I bought the Touratech/Kahedo seats secondhand on here and they're a step up from the standard ones - bit wider and firmer in the sides so better support...but, could not argue that they are full-price better - but worth looking at if you can find a used set.

I had some Sargeants from Yorkie on here but didn't find them a deal better, I think because when I have my pillion onboard I can't sit far enough back to get my arse on the wider part. Tried an air hawk which was a lot better but still not perfect IMO, so I tried turning it round with the wider bit at the front which then puts more weight under the thighs, taking the weight off the lower back. Again this was a further improvement, so with this in mind I bought a standard unheated seat off ebay and took it to Tony Archer and asked him to pad it out along the same lines, I.E more padding under the thighs. Haven't been able to do many miles yet but seems pretty good so far and looks tidier than the air hawk. Heightwise it feels about halfway between the low and high setting and is noticeably wider when stopped with feet down.
Incidentally great service from Mr Archer at short notice. I was over that way on a two day training course, dropped the seat in first morning and he said it would be ready early in case the course finished early on day two. (it was and it did) Proper service , tidy job and the offer to alter it if it wasn't right. Top man!

I've got a heated comfort seat for sale if anyone's interested.mint.about a year old.£300.00

I too have the comfort seat, had it on the bike from new so never experienced the standard seat, I find if helps me to sit more upright and supports the lower back much more, and it look great too.
