If you have ridden both, what is your thoughts on likes and dislikes of them. For instance, I have heard that the 1300 is fast but vibey?

Its personal preference, do you need the extra speed, weight and technical complexity of the GT? Personally I would go with the RT:)

I had a test on a K13GT a while back.

Compared to my 2010 RT, the GT is a lot faster but strangely a little flat at 60ish in top - it needed a downchange or wait till 80 then it really flies. I'm sure its still faster than the RT in the midrange but relative to the grunt at 40 and 80 in top it felt a little lacking at 60.

Handling was good, although no better than the RT. After getting back on mine the RT felt really planted.

Comfort - not as good as the RT for my back. I could happily have played with the bike for an hour every week, but I wouldn't want to do successive 400 mile days on it.

Smaller tank & thirstier engine = less range

It was a good bike but you can probably guess I didn't buy it.

K1600gt

At anywhere between £17500 -£20,000 with all the bits, it should have warp drive and a transporter system!

With pricing like this no wonder bike sales are dropping off a cliff!

I and a mate had both out on the same day, all day and did a comparison.

For me the GT was the better, quicker, more comfortable, better riding position, better protection. With the exception of the speed, my mate thought completely the opposite.

Best bet would be to do something similar if you can. The only way that'll you know which one suits you best is to ride them both.

I rode a 1200GT and 1200RT back to back on a cold day (-2 C). RT kept my legs nice and warm for the 1 hour ride. Took the GT back after 10 minutes because my legs were too cold.
I ride 160 miles into work all year so needed the warmth of the RT.
I've also never liked 4 pot engines so that was my second reason for taking the RT home.

I also rode the 1600's. Very nice but at £18k they were beyond my budget.

I tried the GT because of the higher mirrors which helps with riding in London. I really tried to like the GT but the cold air on my legs was a deal breaker. Even my 1150 GS keeps my legs as warm as the RT. Must be the hot jugs that does it.

Just my 2p worth.

I have ridde both and would go for the RT any day. The K1300 is too vibey, at least mine was. Dont think the seat on the K1300 was that good either, but having said that when I rode the RT i dont remember it causing me any pain or being memorable, so it must have been ok. i only had the RT for a day but in that day I did over 200 miles without much time off the bike.

P.S. I owned the K1300, so had more than 200 miles on it to get to know it.
The RT just felt right full stop. Will be buying one soon (From a dealership that looks after its customers!!!!) probably within the next few months if our often quoted redundancy schedule actually happens on the time scale advertised.....

I have a 2011 RT and was thinking of moving it on for a reason I can't recall :nenau Happy now and keeping it forever.....:beerjug:

BTW - Excellent review of the RT in this months BIKE mag!
