My GS12 is fantastic, but I don't ride on difficult diirt. I live on the Great Ocean Road and enjoy riding it to the best of my ability. This bike is a quiet acheiver which I am often pleased about, especially when overtaken on a straight stretch by sports bikes. On a GS, if you want to, you can push them far harder than they are comfortable with. We don't do that though. do we?
Have any of you tried or changed to the R1200ST? I would be interested in changing over if it was a forward step.

Boring than a more boring thing.......is the ST.

Why? It looks like it would be a great deal of fun, but I fear will be overshadowed by the 12S, as the R1150RS was the RT, but surely the engine would be as usable as the GS. :nenau

R1200ST

I tried both the GS and ST on demo. Surprisingly I found the engine in the GS a bit flat and lacking torque compared to my R1100S (chipped). GS sit up riding position was great and it is a good bike. I would certainly add a GS to my dream garage. Another downside is that there are just so many of them in the UK that you feel like one of the herd.

My miles are on the road and the ST felt equally as composed as the GS. ST engine has more power and felt closest to the S I was seeking to replace. The ST looks are admittedly a bit love it or loath it however anyone who has seen the bike has commented postively.

I bought an ex-demo ST (900 miles) and £2.5k less than list price. I would have been full price for a GS. l have found the ST to be an ideal long distance tourer; it is a lot lighter than the 1200RT and the fairing provides decent wind protection; 100mph cruising is so easy..... 21 litre tank is giving 220 miles before fill-ups.

I tried an ST when I got my GS and was very impressed :thumb by it and only discounted buying it because of the lower luggage capacity as I ride 2-up most of the time. If it could have taken our 52L top box it would have been a differcult choice although I am not sure about the looks :nenau.

The GS does everything I need from a bike nothing else about at present compares :bow

The ST is a greatly underrated bike. Everybody I've met who owns one rates it highly. Depends if you like the looks or not.
