It seems that specification in the USA is altogether different to Europe, and I mean massively different.

Check this out.

US spec has always been different: usually is a lower spec but with a larger array of options packages. More generally, as with cars, specs are aimed at specific markets. BMW have come to realise that in the UK few punters want the basic spec.

But in this instance it seem that bmw have thrown catalogue at the exclusive because it is exclusive, it seem you do not get an alternative option.

No, you can build it whichever way you like if you go the usa configuartor. In the USA you can even configure a bog standard GS in HP Raylle or Exclusive colours and/or their features - or add on every TE and design pack/piece bolt on as here, including the biletted extras. It's possible that they're also doing an all black special as seems per here, of course

It's odd really. In the UK with BMW bikes we get all or none (billeted features aside), whereas their cars are almost fully configurable, which isn't always the same in other countries.

Hmm... interesting. One question, why no LED indicators in the USA? And they seem to be mounted on a half mile long stalk...

I have a friend at a us dealer. He said they had a bulletin saying the exclusive was being mis sold before. They have to sell it now with a batch of extras, lights, panniers, etc etc. Not sure if it’s just a us thing though.

I find that a bit odd. The current way of optioning shown on the configurator (which after all is still up) is the largely the same for the 1200, albeit with a smaller number of option package (most being stuffed into the premium option). With the 1200 you could buy what was effectively a non-TE exclusive, the only difference being that the exclusive colour was called cappuccino rather than iced chocolate metallic! (Least they're calling it the same colour now!)

It seems the bulletin said that exclusive was not meant to be sold as just an alternative colour option but as a higher spec accessory inclusive model. They ordered the bike for a customer but had to hold it back as bmw told them they could not sell it without the options anymore. I’ll see if I can find out more details.

I've just got back from New York and popped into Manhattan BMW Motorrad. The two differences i did not were the NON LED indicators and the missing SOS. Apparently SOS is a EU thing only !
