I'm selling my Vario top box from my R1250GS to someone who is buying their GS later in the year. My own GS is going as a trade-in for a GSA, hence the reason I no longer need the Vario box.
Do I need to take the Vario mounting plate off my bike to sell with the top box or do the 1250GSs come from the factory ready fitted to take a Vario top box?
The reason I ask is that when I have removed the mounting plate, the pillion handles terminate at the back of the bike with no support and there looks as if something should be taking the place of the mounting plate to support them.

Thanks.

There is a new support used when using a Vario top box, but this has to be purchased separately - As you don’t have the original support then don’t remove it.

Your mate might appreciate you keeping the mounting plate.
You can pick up a used standard one for a few quid. The Vario mounting plate is £90 new...

You can spec the mounting plate when you order the bike. It does NOT come with the mounting plate for Vario topbox unless you order it. Its a beefed up version of what comes with a GS ordered without it. I didnt order it and i had to buy a purpose made bracket to beef up the carrier on the bike.

I ordered mine with my new bike, and the dealer fitted it and gave me the standard mount.

It seems a bit penny pinching not to fit the mounting plate as standard to all GS' especially given the cost of the vario top box compared to the panniers which fit straight out of the box. I kept the standard plate from my 1st LC GS together with the fixing bolts so I've only had to pay for the plate once and swapped it back each time I got a new one.

I’ve just bought the pannier mount plate for mine as it came without. The difference between the standard one and the vario on is small and when they are on the bike it looks exactly the same. Seems very odd that it comes with the mounts for the side boxes as standard but you have to pay extra for the mount for the top box.

Yup, thats correct, unless you order it at time of purchase its an extra. Just a note to anyone who is going to fit the strengthening bracket under the topbox IT DOES NOT FIT if the bike has been speced with the vario mounting plate, only fits the standard GS plate.

Can anyone remember who made the support bracket for the topbox ? Ive looked through my threads and i cant find it. Age being what it is i cant remember. Just for peeps info.
