Just wondering - I was playing around with the cut off switch, thought it could be handy to turn the bike off and leave the electrics on. When using it the bike fails to restart - makes a horrible noise when turning over and all sorts of warning messages come up. Have to turn off the ignition and then it seems to sort itself out. I wouldn't have thought this would be the case. Have rung BMW dealers and am taking it in soon for it to be checked. They couldn't provide an answer other than 'its not supposed to be used like that'.

Thoughts?

When my battery struggles on cold mornings I get error messages appearing on the TFT - brake light failure, rear suspension strut failure, emergency call failure & traction control failure.

I don't quite get the rationale behind the dealers comments - the manual makes no mention. Isn't it possible to achieve the same thing by briefly pressing the unlock button when stationary?

Just out of interest, what happens if you have the bike running, in gear & deploy the side stand? Does it get all confused in a similar manner?

Not tried that. I just thought that using the emergency cut off would be fine. I guess BMW didn't plan for it and the electronics just don't reset properly when you use it. Be interesting to hear what further info the dealer has got for me when I take it along.

TFT is a simple linux computer with bmw software, like computer needs to shutdown good or can make problems.

The dealer's comments are irrelevant, the fact is that there is something wrong, what if you did have to use it for the purpose for which it is intended, it is still going to have those problems. Tell them you were checking that all the electrics were functioning properly, which is good practice, and clearly there is a major fault.
