My 2020 and 12000 mile R1250GS has pulsating front brakes. Sycamore Motorrad advised one disc had an out of tolerance run out, and the other was at the tolerance run out. I've enquired with BMW warranty and they say that repairs are at the discretion of the dealer; the dealer says that BMW tell them that this is reasonable wear and tear. This is my first BMW and in my books warped front discs after 18 months/12k miles suggest manufacturing defect not reasonable wear and tear! Any advice out there about how to get this sorted under warranty?

I’m my experience the most important thing is to have a good relationship with the dealer. The buck stops with them. Reading some of th we threads here it seems that some dealers are more proactive than others. Keep a cool head. Try and find out if it’s a common thing. Has it always been serviced in that dealership? Has it ever had different pads fitted? Good luck. JJH

There are a number of reasons for a warped disc, not really a manufacturing fault unless you can demonstrate the wheel, disc or brake pads have been installed incorrectly when it was new. whichever the actual reason for it, it's most likely to be a result of heat. This would mean that regardless of age or miles etc, a warped disc can happen at any time during ownership, certainly within 12K miles on a bike. Has the wheel been out? has it been used on a trackday? do you still have original pads? etc etc. It's all dependant upon whether any external circumstances could have caused it. If nothing like this happened and you can prove it to the dealer they will make a decision based on that, and if they believe you or not. if they do you'll get the warranty claim. I wouldn't hold up much hope of getting anywhere. Normally when the disc has warped due to heat there's some sign of bluing, if there is you've no chance.

I once succeeded with a car but it was hard work, and it was after a main dealer had just installed new discs and pads 2 week earlier.

Just my thoughts and past experiences with things like this. Good luck!

Have you just had a tyre change? I too have had a warped disc which turned out to be as a result of a ham fisted tyre fitter not taking due care and levering forces bearing down on the disc.

Brakes - pads and discs are technically consumables

They will at some stage during there life need replacing.

Yes 18 months and 12k seems low, but in a polite and non finger pointing way, we nor the dealer knows your style of riding.

you may be a race to the junction and last minute brake application to stop microns from the line,

or lets apply the brakes half a mile from the junction to sloooooooowly roll up to the line..

both ways will generate heat, and its heat that normally causes the problems

Had it been 18 weeks or days the problem occurred, then yes, a manufacturing defect would have sounded plausible.

Ultimately i feel that you may not be on to a winner, but see if a goodwill gesture is forthcoming

Discs possibly not cooled down after a long run . Then the hose out to wash the bike
That could warp the disc too .
Seen it happen on cars .
