R12GS RATTLE SCREEN NO MORE

Rattle screen problem on the R12GS is now history. BMW has resolved the problem by replacing the plastic center holders with new aluminium ones. I expect that BMW will issue a recall for a free replacement on all R12GS sold till today!! Of course half of the bikes if not all are by now equipped with the Wunderlich or Tourateck screen kit. Nevertheless they have to issue a recall. Will investigate on Monday.

Never had any rattle screen problem because I installed the TT aluminium screen holder AND this very useful part (also from TT) which I strongly recommend; these two mods will solve the rattle problem; I will post some pictures very soon

Mine came with black anodized alum holders from the factory and the shield still rattles at idle.. no big deal for me.

Motozen, are you really sure that your bike came with alu holders ? mine (March 2005) came with the black plastic holder; it looks like alu but when you take off the screen you will notice that they are made of plastic; try the TT part (picture above), easy to install and really fantastic (so far)

Here is an even better fix,which we do on all our bikes and solves the problem.
Remove the pivots from the front,then slid a small rubber oring onto the spindle part,then refit into bracket.
No more rattly screens!

I picked my bike up in October. The plastic screws were in with the keys and Ocean had fitted black anodized steel screws in their place.

I assumed that it's an official if low key BWM mod.

The test bike I rode had an annoying rattle but mines been rattle free.

As a side effect, tobinators fixed the problem on my bike...

Easiest cure for the rattle is a pair of rubber washers between the screen and its bracket
