Hi to all, this is the first time I've put anything onto this site.
have been mostly reading trying to get up to speed with the useful info. provided. Have just had a 6 thou. service + new clutch f.p. ,crankshaft oil seal,
gear box input oil seal, fuel pump controller seal/gasket updated firmware, oh yeah and some new oil ! Most of this warranty work from a breakdown at 3500 miles.

Not sure these are built to be cained !!

And when i got it back yes the bottem yoke was loose as learned from earler thread.

thanks for all the info.

Hi Matt...sounds like you've had more than your share of woes...! Welcome to the board... :)

Yep you could say it was'nt the kind of introduction to bmw that I'd hoped for.
I'll see how the next few thou.go and hope the oil leaks dry up !

I had those issues on my last BMW. I had an 01 KRS and had multiple issues with the bike. As long as the shop you do biz with knows there stuff, your bike will be as good as new OR even BETTER.... Don't sweat the small stuff... Nuff said...hp

Hi M@tt - I am with Kdude - when you have these types of probs in the early stages of ownership it can leave you feeling disillusioned about BMW and the bike. But in my long experience of owning BMW's any dealer worth his salt can take care of you and your bike with the full backing of BMW. I have found that if I work WITH the dealer rather than up against them then progress is guaranteed.

I have a series of deeply worrying problems with my 1200 due to corrosion but BMW have put a plan in place to fix everything and I am happy that if the problem comes back I will have it all fixed again - most of this is enshrined in UK consumer law and Euro law anyway but BMW genuinely want to look after their customers and make them happy. Of course there is always the exception - usually individuals who are not with the 'program'.

I have found BMW machinery to be very reliable over the years - cars and bikes - but then my Nissan(s) have been super reliable too!

Keep smilin'

Hi M@tt, looks like a common theme mate, mine has had a new rear drive unit, engine/gearbox oil seals replaced, two replacement engine front covers, replacement cylinder head covers, software updates, and she has rust on many fasteners and the front wheel spindle, plus I have resorted to using Loctite on my lower fork brace bolts to prevent them coming loose.

Having said that, she's done 19,300 miles and rides beautifully on and off road like no other bike I have ever owned so I am willing to keep on claiming under warranty for as long as I can until she is fixed and reliable. I really love my R1200GS and would buy another one despite the build niggles with mine.

The warranty service from BM has always been excellent, though unfortunately it runs out next year.

I notice you are over in Pompey, fancy a rideout sometime, I know a few other GS'ers locally who would be up for a spin.
