R1300 Bmw luggage

have New 1300 gs arriving soon
already have vario luggage got
I know I will have to do lock barrels
but does luggage have to be coded to bike for central locking system to work ?

I would have thought the dealers would code it for you.

I thought I read somewhere on here that the 1300 has different luggage from the previous models, so maybe check with the supplying dealer first?

Yep, the "old" Vario panniers for the 1200/1250 don't fit the 1300 sadly.

but bought from different dealer than dealer bike is coming from

If it's anything like the central locking on the 1250RT, the panniers will not need coding. The central locking module will have been set at the factory and there is no "intelligence/computer brain" in the panniers themselves.

I’ve canceled the varios I’d ordered, decided to stick with top loaders, I much prefer them

Been looking at the options,

Pretty much fixed on a set of SW Motech Trax ADV, probably 45 liters each side with quick detach racks

Maybe it's the central locking mechanisms?

I have to say the central locking on an "adventure" bike strikes me as being nearly as daft as that ludicrous swivelling headlight thingy. Enough bits fall off or stop working on modern GSs if you use them the way the marketing blurb says you should, without fitting them with more sensitive electronic gizmos.

That said, I had central locking on my RT, expected it to be a total white elephant, rather like keyless, but came to rather like it...

Great panniers. Had them on my 1290R
