Front and rear calipers on the r1300 gs.. can anyone please confirm the front and rear caliper bolt torque settings..
Sorry a bit confused here.. the O.E.M spec r1300 gs I.E as first posted.. Front and rear calipers on the r1300 gs.. can anyone please confirm the front and rear caliper bolt torque settings.. I don't know the pitch/diameter or going into steel or ali.. just the "O.E.M factory fitted bolts" r1300 gs caliper bolts torque settings .. Sorry I assumed you had a r1300 gs and may know torque settings. thanks anywaywhat are we confirming ?
pitch and diameter ?
what is it going into ? steel, ali ?
Done some research on the r1300 gs rear caliper torque settings.. There as been a few instances on the r1300 gs with the rear caliper coming loose and contacting the rear wheel spokes causing the rear wheel to disintegrate.. I understand Bmw r1250 gs rear torque caliper setting is 27 nm.. bmw have more than doubled the torque setting on the r1300 gs rear caliper to 56 nm.. if this is correct please be aware.. this would confirm the r1300 rear caliper torque setting.. as recently I purchased a rear powerbronze matt black rear hugger for the r1300 gs and they supply slightly longer rear caliper bolts and state in installation instructions torque caliper bolts to 55 nm.
I've heard of this before there was a clip of a r1300 gs the rear wheel is completely demolished they reckon the rear caliper came loose "not sure where it was! if I can find it will post link.. but to your question about the 56 nm for the r1300 gs rear caliper bolts.. take a look at this clip its quite long but can just to 3:24 which states 56 nmThere have been cases of 1250s with spoked wheels collapsing but I've never heard of it on a 1300 yet
Are you sure that 56nm is for caliper bolts? Sounds like a lot to me
I seem to remember that was the torque setting for the bolt that attaches the top paralever arm to the final drive
with some research.. I'm sure the original torque setting for the rear caliper as changed for the r1300 gs.. from the r1250 gs.. can't find any info about it.. it seem's bmw just state.. " have brakes serviced at a bmw service centre.. maybe they just want your cash or there is a reason why they don't want owners removing and installing brake calipers.. it seems that due to there is no torque settings for the r1300 gs calipers owners/none bmw dealers are using the torque settings based on the r1250 gs.. if bmw have changed the caliper bolt specs which it appears they have.. and don't want to supply the torque settings "for what ever reason" most likely why they state "have brakes serviced at a bmw service centre.. just covering their rear ends..Fair do's, I'd forgotten about that video, but as far as I know it was a one off, for the 1250s there was a recall I believe to check spokes
If the torque setting has changed that much then it's definitely worth knowing!
I've just confirmed with Powerbronze again to make sure the information is correct... They I've confirmed with BMW.. the rear caliper mounting bolt size as change on the r1250 gs from M8 to M10 on the r1300 gs.. if installing a powerbronze rear hugger on the r1300gs they supply slightly longer mounting bolts to allow for the hugger bracket I.E M10X40 which the torque setting is 55NM and recommend to add a small amount of medium "blue" lock tightwith some research.. I'm sure the original torque setting for the rear caliper as changed for the r1300 gs.. from the r1250 gs.. can't find any info about it.. it seem's bmw just state.. Also just to add.. I just called powerbronze to confirm the rear caliper torque settings is 55 nm and add a small amount of medium "blue" lock tight.. and they confirm "yes" as they contacted bmw who confirmed the 55 nm torque.. the reason why isI just called powerbronze to confirm the rear caliper torque settings is 55 nm and add a small amount of medium "blue" lock tight.. and they confirm "yes" as they contacted bmw who confirmed the 55 nm torque.. the reason why is the r1250 gs rear caliper bolt size is 8mm and the r1300 gs caliper bolt size is 10mm.. of course.. if you know or hear of any different please post as we all need to be safe when riding of course.. if you know or hear of any different please post as we all need to be safe when riding.![]()
