Hi .. is it just me or reading instructions wrong when trying to engage the steering lock on my r1300 gs.. Seems simple enough..

Turn handle bar to left press start button hear a engagement click release button steering lock engage? when I release button it seems to disengage the steering lock.. tried this with ignition on and off.. same thing happens.. Surely the engine dose not need to be running when steering lock is engage.. if I remember correctly this is how the steering lock was applied to my r1250 gsa and RS model only difference being is the start button was not on the handle bar?

Do it with the ignition off.
Turn bars to the left, make sure the key is within range of the bike, press and hold the ignition button, release button when you hear it click and engage the lock.

Yes, mine works that way, make sure the bars are all the way to the left when you hear the steering lock engage
Thanks for the replies. Sorry Feel a bit of a fool now.. DOH! Just purchased a Genuine BMW tank bag and the bag did not allow the steering to go to complete full lock.. However that seems a bad design as the front tank bag strap dose not allow any adjustment to allow the tank bag to sit further back.. suppose not a problem as it dose not prevent full lock it just touches the side of the bag but still allows full lock when full lock is applied. not a problem really as we won't use any where near full lock when riding ..
