Very quick (and very bad) video of the new 1300s, I thought they looked great but I had to leave because the prices were making my eyes water - there was an RT there as well (dont know why I didnt get pics) with a pricetag of £29k

Had to do a double take to realise what it was as it just looked very UJM.

God knows why BMW have made it smaller , more cramped and more sporty when surely the majority of perspective owners are 50+ ?
I rented an older wonky headlight RS in San Diego a while back and it was a very good bike .

This new one is far more sports than touring and felt very cramped .

Bmw spoiled the RS when they did away with the asymmetric headlights, the 1250 was ... as you say just like a Jap bike in styling.
Can't justify spending 20 grand on the new RS,wouldn't mind having the engine in my lovely lupin though.

Agreed.

And why make an M Sport version of a ‘sport tourer’ that you then can’t attach luggage to ? Very bizarre.
Most people buying an RS will be 50+ and I doubt they wanted a more sporty version as their knees get stiffer and belly gets bigger .
Can’t see this new bike being a big seller , then again nor was the last one …….

50 +++++ more like  I'm closer to 70 than 50 so guess they're trying to appeal to "younger" riders who go down the PCP route and are trying to give it a 10 year shelf life. I guess current RS riders are not that likely to get one as we're likely to pack in riding or go down the lighter route like @Micky within this bike's lifespan so they're targeting a diffent audience. I'm certainly not forking out 20k+ for the latest RS in motorrad colours when my 1250RS SE in the motorrad colour scheme was under 16k just 18 months ago

Yes I think BMW are trying to attract a younger audience, as mentioned above the current buyers are getting old and buying smaller bikes

They don’t want to end up like Harley Davidson who can’t seem to renew their client base

Maybe it's because not everyone is lanky ?

I said something very similar in the other forum

Millennial riders are getting to where our generation were in the noughties, where we left our R1, CBR, ZXR etc behind for sport tourers and adventure bikes. Riders with disposable income who no longer want to ride the Fireblade, RSV4 or Panigale.

Maybe there will be a load of born again millennials, who rode a bike to college or delivered pizza as a student? They might be at an age where their kids have grown up and they have disposable income as they are in their mid 40s and peak earnings.

Saw / sat on one yesterday. I’m 6’ and thought it was pretty comfy. I guess you buy the lower footpeg kit and bar risers if you want it more tour-y than sporty? TBH it’s the only R model I’d consider having looks wise, as the GSA, RT and R they had in were “visually challenging” to me. Kinda liked the looks of the RS but yes it’s not as distinctive as previous models.

Cheers

I went into a BMW dealers on Friday for the first time in over a year

Nothing in there took my fancy in the 1300 or 1250 GS/RT/GSA stakes

It was all very ugly and bulbous and the new GSA luggage looks hideous (cheap copy of some Givi luggage)

Clothing had eye watering price tags too, no jackets under a grand

I did have a look over the new R12 G/S and thought it was better in the flesh and have arranged a test ride for this coming Wednesday

But at £15500 for a base white model in enduro spec, without cruise or heated grips (would have to be retro fitted) - it was hard to get excited and into ‘buy me’ mode

A fully loaded white model would be north of £17-18,000

It may be better to buy a used low mileage R9T Urban and chuck a few grand at suspension mods and other goodies and still be half the price of the new G/S
