R7

Shame the shock is adjustable by C spanner as I dont want to keep having to wind up and down the preload-she’ll need the shock wound off as its quite firm and she’s on tippy toe.

Think I’ll end up using it more than her.Oh dear, what a hardship !!

There are solutions that'll also improve it.

Collected this just now.

That's an absolute cracker, what a great looking bike !!

I'd be more smitten if they did a yellow speedbock version

I have spent more time than is normal, thinking through having a carbon push bike frame painted, Yellow - White - Black/Speedblocks/Lectron/Goodyear/Eagle/Yamaha.....FFS....:blast

Then buy a pair of Peter Sagan legs Tom Pidcock lungs and your sorted.

They may also have half an eye on the future Chinese invasion which will happen in the net few years.

Aah I think you may have something there. Right now, the sales of Chinese bikes probably depend largely on attractive pricing. If the Japanese can close that gap by reducing the price of their bikes, it will be so much harder for Chinese manufacturers to establish a toe hold.

Well spotted.

And the more I look at this bike, the prettier it is. There's only one colour scheme though surely - it would not be half the bike in any other colour scheme (yellow/ black speedblock excepted).

Agreed.
It’s amazing how the anniversary paint job brings the bike to life.
My dealer also has a blue one which you can see here but it looks very ordinary in comparison.

The bike looks so right, but will sound so wrong!
Using the R7 name conjures up the wail of an inline 4.

Other than that I can't find any other negatives to say.

The 700cc engine sounds great, even in stock format

It may well sound great, but still wrong for an R7.
Just a bad choice of name as it's misleading in my opinion.

It’s only misleading for grumpy old farts.
Most of the target audience for this bike won’t even have heard of the previous R7 from the last century !

Yamaha - they certainly get things “just right”

Then why try to cash in on the name?

What is wrong with the R7T or TRX 700?

'Hello'.....:D

For those who must have an original - get yer wallets out.

I would rather have a Honda SP2 myself but the original R7 does look nice for an old girl.

Jonny I was in Craigs Honda ( Shipley) about 5 years ago browsing the bikes. I overheard two of the sales guys as they had “ lost” a Honda RC45. Apparently the owner Craig? Had been hoovering up classics and stock was split over a few locations. But one bike had disappeared!

They did have a zero mile Honda 213 in stock for a cool £125k

I have occasionally lost my phone, but an RC45 ???!!!!!....I seem to remember that it was zero miles.

I can confirm that I didn't buy that RC213V-S...:D

Precisely
Who cares?

Well I for one!

I know there are those that just flit from the latest shiny must have toy to the next, but for many of us heritage and history mean an awful lot.
And an R7 is and always will be homologation exotica ridden by Noriyka Haga in a golden age of WSB, when Twins had an unfair advantage.
To stick a low powered twin in a Yamaha and call it an R7 is blasphemy.
Arsey talks of target audience, yet the bike has a quarter of a century name with a half century paint job.
I think they have found their target audience, and most are in their 4th quarter, struggling a bit.

Imagine Honda making a Castrol liveried bike with a single sided swingarm. Putting in a commuter parallel twin and calling it an RC30 - Ridiculous!

I'm all for the bike, I have dropped 300cc and 20HP to a parallel twin myself.
I think it looks great, and priced well.
But I think the name sucks.

Yamaha have gone down to a single digit in their model nomenclature .
For example the Tracer 700 and 900 are now the Tracer 7 and 9.
They are bringing out a 900 triple version of the R7 next year so will be the R9,so R7 makes perfect sense.
If they had called it the Racer 7 and Racer 9 you would probably have moaned that it doesn’t deserve to be given such a name without crazy power stats !! :-0)
