R80/7

Seen this for sale


1978 BMW R80/7, 35641 genuine miles, of which I have put 50 on to test. Runs like a watch. Just had a refurb after 9 years off the road, of powder coated frame, new bearings, rims ,spokes,all fasteners in stainless steel, master cylinder upgrade and new brake lines, forks completely rebuilt, new tyres, tubes, bands, engine started first prod with no known problems, not a puff of smoke from new exhaust system, brand new battery, electronic ignition ect ect.

What’s it worth ? Ta.

We’re the hubs blasted when the wheels rebuilt or are they painted,
It’s had,AFAYK,no major work/resto to engine ,box or bevel?
Are the gearbox and bevel painted as well?

It’s up for £3700

Not overly expensive,
If you remove the big cost of a full engine ,gearbox and bevel rebuild.
Or to put it another way,a FULLY restored one would be £10k.
But,you wouldn’t buy that particular bike if you wanted a fully restored one .
Does that make any sense?

What year, what mileage, any service history?

Not a bad looking bike, if you ignore all the bits that Mikeyboy kindly pointed out. At least it hasn’t fallen into the hands of some idiot “customiser” that has bastardised it into a “cafe racer/brat/whatever the next new thing is”.

If mileage is reasonable, and the service history is all there, then I’d have it just to stop it being chopped.....but I would want a bit off the price stated coz I’m cheap.

Why has the choke control been removed?

It's had the hipster choke conversion........ You can see the chromed push/pull knob on each the carb.
Why use one thumb to do the job when you can be seen fecking around having to use both hands, especially when knocking off the choke while riding along

Is the metal seat pan in good condition, or has it been slathered in black hammerite paint.

As it has not been mentioned thus far, I assume that's an original BM colour.

Hard to tell from the pic. BMW did the 80/7 in a metallic bronze that year although they called it "orange metallic" according to Phil Hawksley's site. It could be that colour. However, if it's original it should have gold pin stripes on the tank. It doesn't, so my guess is it aint!

I don’t think it is - mine is Orange Metallic and it’s more orangey/bronzey than that one appears in the pics, and as you say it has the gold pinstripes.
