R80 basic price

The Bumblebee paralever R100gs is almost as good looking with the high front mudguard. It's older and the 'original' rather than an homage like the Basic. I've got one. Cosmetically challenged, but I'd have guessed value around £2000-£2300. Just cant understand why a Basic, which is essentially the same bike, would be worth 7 grand. Also think the 100 is much better than an 80 too.

Actually the tank on the Basic came from the old ST rather than the g/s, they went with this option as it carried less fuel than the g/s tank and was therefore saving on weight.:D

It's already been mentioned but original unmodified Basics make premium money, hard to find in the UK although they do appear now and then.

Good guide when looking is that they were not released until June 1996 so anything earlier than they won't be a Basic, the frame and engine numbers can be checked to confirm if a bikes genuine or not.

I'd agree they are in my opinion they are a beautiful bike, also a fantastic thing to ride, smooth and silky even with all the gubbins that had to be added for emissions control.

yes i remember reading somewhere about them being the st tank, the range dosnt bother me the 19ltr or so will be fine, its the look of the small tank i like.

Incorrect it holds about the same amount of fuel the reason the used it was the fuel filler cap on the old tank was not suitable for 90's regs

They are a great bike..You will pay good money for one but you wan't loose any either
I still use mine a lot ...Last year in Spain

very nice too, is that the kalahri tank with pd stickers?

Hi Peepingtom,

In repsonse to you original question.
you may be very lucky and get one around that price.

but you did say you were thinking partly because they are "rare" so theres the rub.
you have to pay the rarity premium.

But you will need to start more like 7-9 to get one.And depends if you are after small or big tank.

you could get one of Gary bamw's subframes and adapt a cheaper r80/100
but of course that will only be alookalike.
the one newboy posted on ebay seemed to go for a fairprice so that would be a good base for someone to do a looaklike.

I think some people see the rebuilt/restored ones Gary at bamw sell and price their own "original untouched ones accordingly" over 10-12k.

yeah I'm not keen to pay 7 or 8 we shall see what turns up and i defiantly don't want a looky likey as i have a GSPD looky likey which is fine but i want my basic to be right, and the small tank too.

it just is i suppose is the only answer. i can't see why people pay 30 or 40 grand on a watch or 10s of millions for a piece of canvas with paint on. maybe people just like them as they're the last airhead ever made ?

thats why i want one anyway.:thumby:

No it's an original R80GSPD tank
I like the bike because it a excellent 2 up off roader

Yes same reason i like them. Theyre a lot more manageable than the newer bikes.
Very nice too that tank you can still buy them but there around £1300 fully painted up.
That looks very high up there where were you.
