Just get some original G/S panniers with no keys. How do I get round this, remove locks, lock smith, are there std keys.

Any advise appreciated.

Colin

Have a look at the side of the latches when they are open. There is a number here and that is the number of the key you need.
Then ask around all the usual suppliers.

Don't worry, the flat locks only have a choice of three or four combinations of keys. Most common number key is usually 63.

If it's locked and you can't open it to find the number just use a paper clip :D

Can't find a number anywhere on the lock! These are the older square locks, them seem to have a shaped key rather than a flat one.

Are we talking about the locks with the small lift up flap that covers the keyhole ?

The lock has to be open, and then you can see it stamped on the edge.

Thanks Steptoe, just found the numbers on the side of the open lock. 062 on one side and 051 on the other!

Many thanks,

Colin

Those flat keys are getting a bit difficult to find now. German sites are only offering limited numbers or complete new locks, an expensive option.

Suggest that you ask around here to borrow with promise of return or pain of death, take to a good security/key cutting business (not a supermarket heel bar) and get some cut to pattern.

My local cobblers (remember them, stitch and glue anything) had a very similar blank and made me a set in a couple of days, using the only 1 that I had. Luckily same key for both panniers.

Just checked, mine is an 045. Otherwise I would have helped.

Others may be along soon to help.

I might have a 62 at home. If I have and can get it copied I will send it on to you. Won't know for about 10 says as I am away.

I have found a 051 but I'm still looking for a 062. If anyone has a 062 key that I can copy that would be a great. I'm based in Nottingham and can collect / return locally, but will pay any postage if required.

Thanks

I've had a look through my small bag of old assorted keys i keep at home. No number 062. But i've a huge box of old keys in my other workshop miles away. I'll have a look when i'm next down there.
