R80 g/s possibly the best bike BMW ever made

Read his feedback . Amazing how all the ebayers have written exactly the same sentence . Coincidence 😂

I asked for mileage, mot, whether it ran
Says it runs, but no mot.
Also says 4923km….. so think that’s a red flag…..

I’ve asked where and when I can view it…… will see if I get a reply to that.
If I can get it for £2k ish, it’s worth it I think….even tho lots will need doing to it.
 
Took my ST bitsa out today after renewing the timing chain, and setting tappets ( tho I did set exhaust a little loose at 2.0 instead of 1.5)
Bike ran well, and reminded me how good airheads are.
Still not sure if I prefer the R80GS basic, or my old bitsa ST/gs ….both ride differently, but both good.

Spooky - I asked if I could view it and when.

The reply “are you a private buyer” ?

Was thinking Southsea’s not far from me, so no harm in taking a look at the bike (and the seller)

If you want it though - I’m out.
 
I still believe it’s a scam….,
Waiting to hear if he will let me view the bike.

He says it runs, but pics show plug cal not on bike so unsure if it runs, or the mileageetc etc.
 
Well that’s a shock…..it disappeared from sale when people asked to view……

Too good to be true = scam.

Scam or not,
I think it’s very wishful thinking that you could buy a running complete g/s for £2k.😆
You could break a bike like that for spares and get £3 or £4K in parts if it’s not completely bolloxed.
 
I was following the frog kissing strategy in the hope I’ll find a princess.

I’m still looking for (and have been for many years) WYK21S an R80/7.

It’s out there somewhere

True Mike. The 2k was only a starting price. I was hoping it really was a 1981 early g/s in running order…. Worth it as a startin* place to rebuild a decent early g/s.
I know the front mudguard wasn’t correct, but all rest looked there….so was worth seeing if it was real.
I always thought it was dubious, but just wanted to close the scammer down if it was as dodgy as I thought.

I think Stirlingmoz ( Pete) was doing the same….like me he is a cynic ( now retired)

R100 barrels / pistons fitted,big valve RT heads with new hard seats,new valves etc ,etc .
rebuilt 40 bings
Total motor rebuild.
Rebuilt gearbox with high 5th,and all primary gears.
Both wheels rebuilt with brand new rims.

My 86 built PD rides really really nice....
Feels light & easy to manage + glides over speed bumps.
I have a paralever 800 GS a couple of years newer which just doesn't feel anywhere near as nice.
As a bonus more comfortable riding position on PD.
Mikeyboy did a Great Job of rebuilding all major components on both bikes, so it's a fair comparison.
Have hit 70 now !!
