I have the opportunity to buy an R80 GS Basic which was partly restored a few years back but has sat ever since in a dry garage as part of a collection of bikes/cars

The owner is selling off various bits & bobs and I have been given the opportunity to buy the Basic on a "make me an offer" basis. Not knowing enough about airhead BMWs I don't want to insult him with a low ball offer and neither do I wish to pay too much for something I may only keep for a few years :blast

I have attached the few (really crap) photos I have been sent but would appreciate the collective's wisdom as to value ? :nenau

I guess a lot depends on the history of it, previous owners, it's use and maintenance records.. All will play a part in its valuation... Going to be hard to give a value without further info really.

All I know at present is the mileage (27000 miles) and the fact it has at least two previous owners

Paul,i think it's an £8k bike.....I know it's not worth that but they really are commanding big money.I've seen bikes on mobile de fetching 8,9 and 10k. If you made him an offer of £5 or £6k I'm sure he wouldn't be insulted and one thing for sure is it's only going up in money. Hope this helps, John.

Yup..worth an initial offer of £6,500 but if owner knows his stuff, then you will be in the region of £7 - £8,000 ( as Florence says, they are simply not worth this but Airheads are fetching premium prices at the moment ).

I'd say £5-6,000 as an investment is a steal , good luck let us know how you get on

Kalahari tank (Paris Dakar) on there adding hundreds to the value. Does it also have the basic tank as well?

luggage racks are also a big bonus. The rack and left pannier frame are the same as the mono g/s but the right hand frame was unique to the basic and are no longer available

As far as I'm aware Rob he only has the big tank but I know he also has a set of aluminium (TT?) panniers that will come with the bike

This is all great advice chaps and much appreciated :thumb2

Yes standard WP shock, if you don't buy it I could be tempted :augie :D
